Friends of the Mary Vinson Memorial Library are hosting a book sale to support the Mary Vinson Memorial Library, the Hancock Branch, and Lake Sinclair Library.
Friends of the Mary Vinson Memorial Library is a nonprofit organization that supports and advocates for libraries. It raises funds to expand library initiatives and develop the library’s collections.
“Examples of library initiatives include special collections, resources, promoting reading programs, and much more,” said Ana Edwards, book sale chair for the Friends of the Mary Vinson Memorial Library. “The book sale funds will be specifically used for any special projects or programs the libraries have this year.”
Their annual book sale is one of these fundraising initiatives. Books that are donated are sold to members and the public. Donated genres include fiction, nonfiction, sci-fi, self-help, travel, cooking, children’s books, and much more.
“We have almost every genre you can think of,” said Edwards. “These are wonderful donations provided to us by the community and each year we sell a new set of books.”
The sale will be held at the Baldwin Recreation Center off Hwy 212 and Hwy 22 for Friends members on Friday, Feb. 9 from 6-8 p.m. and for the public on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Anyone can attend the Friday sale by becoming a member at tllsga.org/ friends or the sale. There are different categories of members and it is an annual cost.
“Pricing has not changed over the years and the books are in very good condition,” said Edwards. “Everyone is sure to find something they would enjoy.”
Books can be purchased at $20 per box and $15 per bag are for public sale. Standard per-book rates apply at the member sale on Friday and for anyone at the public sale on Saturday who chooses not to purchase a bag or box. Standard rates are $2 for hardcopy books, $1 for paperbacks, and $1 for children's books.
“Bring your love of reading and invite your friends to support your local library,” said Edwards.
