The Baldwin County Board of Commissioners approved two contracts for capital projects and heard updates on the millage rate.
Assistant County Manager Dawn Hudson gave an update on the millage rate. After evaluation of the PT-30 rollback, the 2023 millage rate set by the rollback form will be 10.02 mills, which would be an estimated revenue of $13,305,330. According to Hudson, that number is about $130 more than what was budgeted for the fiscal year. The adoption of this millage rate will be Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. during a called meeting.
“This millage rate is for 2023. So, that money has already basically been spent, but we’re setting the millage rate for this year not the year going forward,” said Baldwin County Attorney Brandon Palmer to the audience.
County Manager Carlos Tobar presented the recommended bid for the Community Development Block Grant. Based on the engineer’s recommendation, the bid is for RDJE Inc. for $1,341,000. The grant covers approximately $1 million, and the county would cover $300,000 out of the budget.
“This is for the construction of the Community Development Block Grant, specifically sewer replacement,” said Tobar.
According to Tobar, there were numerous bids, but all were a higher number. After thorough questioning and discussion, the board reluctantly agreed to unanimously approve the recommendation.
Closing administrative matters, the board unanimously approved contracts with Root Designs for the Government Park Project and Stantec for the Harrisburg Park Revitalization, and Streetscape Enhancement for engineering and design-related services.
For the County Manager’s Report, Tobar had no significant updates to capital projects. The next Board of Commissioners meeting will be held Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
