A man who forged more than $16,000 worth of checks in his elderly father’s name entered into a plea deal in Superior Court earlier this month.
James McKinley HIll, 63, pleaded guilty to one count of exploitation of an elderly person and was sentenced to 20 years probation. Hill also was ordered to pay $16,680 in restitution to the victim, his father.
Hill used his father’s checkbook to forge 19 different checks over the course of 18 months. Many of the checks were passed at Johnnie McDade Grocery, which kept extensive records and helped trace the forged checks back to Hill, according to the original incident report.
Meanwhile, Robert Blake Elliott pleaded guilty to one count each of felony burglary, aggravated assault, theft by taking and hit and run. He was sentenced to 12 months in the county jail and 19 years probation. Elliott also was ordered to pay $4,380 in restitution to the victims and $2,805 in court fees.
The case dates back to June 17, 2023, when Elliott went on a rampage. At one point, Elliott reportedly was walking around Old Country Club Road naked. A pair of homeowners in the neighborhood spotted Elliott rummaging around a neighbor’s property. After confronting him, Elliott got in a stolen car and began driving in their direction, “intentionally ramming” the four-wheeler that one of the men was sitting on.
