The franchisee of the Milledgeville Popeyes restaurant announced this week that three more of its locations are closing, one in Baxley, one in Homerville and one in Brunswick.
This comes after Sailormen, Inc., announced in January that it was closing 17 of its restaurants, including six in Georgia, which was part of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. In the court filings, Sailormen noted issues with labor shortages and inflation, claiming it was $130 million in debt.
Not on the list to close is the Popeyes on Milledgeville’s North Columbia Street, which opened in 2013. Several years prior to that, Popeyes had a short-lived run in the small strip mall at the Roberson Mill Road/Garrett Way intersection.
This follows the 2024 Popeyes soap opera that led the Milledgeville location and several others around middle Georgia to temporarily close. At the time, Sailormen had a buyer lined up, but those negotiations eventually fell through, and a dispute ensued over who should pay the rent, which just seems like something that would happen to Popeyes.
