Jack in The Box en route

Jack in the Box, an insomniac- friendly burger chain, is in the process of opening a Milledgeville location.

Tradesmen currently are working on the building at 1671 North Columbia St., previously home to Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. A group called Milledgeville Custard LLC purchased the 3.24-acre property in 2017 for $320,000, and Freddy’s opened the following year. That burger chain lasted seven years before closing last year. Milledgeville Vortex Propco LLC then bought the property for $1.23 million in September 2025.

Jack in the Box’s late-night hours are a large part of its niche. Many Jack in the Boxes are open 24 hours a day, while others remain open for 18. For example, the first Georgia Jack in the Box, located in Hinesville, is open 24/7. The burger chain really leans into its late-night focus, changing the menu between 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and offering “Munchie Meals.”

Roughly 45 percent of Jack in a Box’s 2,000-plus locations are in California. The company only recently entered the southeast, opening its first Georgia location, the aforementioned Hinesville restaurant, last December. Roughly 15 Georgia locations are inthe works, including one in Macon and one in Houston County.
