CRIME WATCH

Men caught with marijuana On Dec. 20, while observing traffic at the corner of Elbert Street and Vinson Highway, an officer observed a white Honda Accord fail to stop at the stop sign before turning right onto Vinson Highway. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Omarion Harden, regarding the traffic violation.

The passenger, later identified as James Powell, was not wearing a seat belt. An odor of marijuana was also emitting from the vehicle. Powell offered a false date of birth to the officer and name.

After running the correct information, it showed two outstanding arrest warrants for probation violations for Powell. He was placed under arrest. Harden stated there was some marijuana in the back seat. Harden stated the marijuana did not belong to him. Powell stated it belonged to a friend who was in the car earlier. Due to both Harden and Powell denying ownership of the marijuana, both were arrested for possession of marijuana less than an ounce.

The vehicle was turned over to Central Georgia Towing and was removed from the roadway. Harden was issued a citation for failure to stop for a stop sign and a warrant was sworn for possession of marijuana less than an ounce.

Powell was arrested for his outstanding probation warrants and two additional warrants were sworn against him for possession of marijuana less than an ounce and giving a false name and date of birth to law enforcement.

Suspicious man caught in driveway

On Dec. 20, law enforcement was dispatched to 298 Lake Laurel Rd. in reference to a suspicious person.

Dispatch advised a vehicle had pulled into the driveway in an SUV and someone was walking around the property. A man, later identified as Trevious Martin, was seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. When approached, he complied and stepped out of the vehicle but refused to answer any questions from law enforcement. Due to Martin refusing to speak, therefore unable to dispel reasonable suspicion, he was detained. The complainant stated he observed what appeared to be headlights in his driveway and walked to his window to investigate. The unknown SUV was running in his driveway with an unknown male walking near the vehicle. The homeowner did not know the male, and stated no one should be on his property at that time. Martin continued to refuse to speak and eventually ran from behind the vehicle and through the back yard of the residence.

Martin refused to comply with verbal commands to stop running and was taken to the ground. Martin’s vehicle was turned over to Old Capitol Wrecker Service by rotation. Two state warrants were served on Trevious Martin for felony forgery in the third degree, out of Milledgeville Police Department, and misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Uncle and nephew caught with methamphetamine

On Dec. 23, while patrolling the area of Vinson Highway and Scott Hill Street, an officer observed a white Chevrolet Silverado stopped at the intersection and observed the driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver, Landers Robinson, stated he knew he had not been wearing his seatbelt but unaware of his registration being suspended.

Robinson never provided what road he came from when asked but stated he was headed to the grocery store with his nephew, Harold Newsome. Robinson had a pistol on his right side attached to his belt and pants and stated he does have a carry permit. During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement located a broken glass pipe, commonly used for narcotic use, wedged in between the driver’s seat and center seat of the vehicle as well as white crystallized rock substance under the passenger seat.

Newsome and Robinson both stated the pipe, nor the suspected methamphetamine belonged to either of them.

The officer conducted a roadside test of the suspected methamphetamine and it indicated a positive result for methamphetamine. Robinson and Harold repeatedly denied knowing about the suspected methamphetamine and broken glass pipe inside the vehicle.

A warrant for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and two warrants for possession of methamphetamine were sworn against Robinson. One warrant for possession of methamphetamine was later sworn against Newsome. Robinson was also issued two warnings: one for suspended registration and one for no seatbelt.

Robinson’s vehicle was turned over to his daughter.

Man gives false name to avoid outstanding warrant

On Dec. 28, while patrolling the area of State Route 49, an officer observed a vehicle traveling 71 mph in a 55 mph zone. The vehicle turned onto Allen Memorial Drive and stopped. The driver, Bridget Palmore-Wright, told the officer that passenger, Eric Warren, was not her husband. Eric told the officer that he did not have a license and provided a fake last name. When asked for a middle name, he responded, 'I don’t have one.'

Bridget later confirmed he was her husband and dispatch confirmed his identity with a photo on file. The photo also confirmed that he was the driver of the vehicle. Eric had an outstanding warrant through Newton County. Eric complied and was placed under arrest for false name and date of birth. Bridget received a ticket for speeding and left the scene.

Man arrested at traffic stop

On Dec. 28, an officer was patrolling near the intersection of North Columbia Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., when a black 2017 Nissan Maxima changed lanes without using a turn signal. The driver, later identified as Jamar Adams, stated he did not have a driver’s license and that it was suspended. Adams was placed under arrest for driving while license suspended. Adams asked for his phone out of the vehicle to call the vehicle owner to retrieve the car.

While retrieving the phone, the officer observed a black handgun in the driver’s door pocket of the vehicle. Dispatch confirmed Adams was a convicted felon and that he had an active arrest warrant through the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation. The registered owner arrived on scene and retrieved the vehicle. Adams received a citation for driving while license suspended and warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
