The Milledgeville City Council met on Tuesday for a short meeting of resolution adoptions, budget and alcohol license approvals, and appointments.
The meeting began with the presentation and reading of a Pride Month proclamation on behalf of the mayor and the city of Milledgeville to members of the PFLAG organization who were present.
The council passed and adopted its 2025 annual operating budget which will begin on July 1 and end June 30, 2025. Along with the budget, the fiveyear capital improvements program was adopted for fiscal years 2025 through 2029.
Mayor Pro Tempore Denese Shinholster thanked all of the council members for their hard work and dedication in creating the budget as well as the diligence of the financial department staff.
A resolution for a moratorium on the application and issuance of new alcoholic beverage licenses for packaged to go distilled spirit was adopted by the council, as well as a resolution to authorize the conveyance of the unopened right of way of South Columbia Street adjacent to 450 W. Franklin St.
Three alcohol license applications were approved at the meeting. Miso Hawngry, located at 120 N. Wayne St., was approved for beer and wine and Sunday sale for consumption on premises. The Corner Store, located at 100 S. Wayne St., was approved for beer and wine retail packaged to go. Lastly, My Fam Foodmart, located at 913 S. Wayne St., was approved for beer and wine retail packaged to go and Sunday sales retail packaged to go.
Last on the agenda was appointments and reappointments. Mark Moehring’s appointment was confirmed by the council to the Milledgeville Historic Preservation Commission. Councilmember Steve Chambers noted that he is excited to have Moehring on the commission and that he has a very impressive background.
Benjamin Lewis and LaTrina Howell were both confirmed for reappointment to the Allied Arts board.
There will be no June 25 council meeting due to the Georgia Municipal Association annual convention.
