Braves prepared as playoffs approach

The top-seeded Baldwin Braves (18-3, 12-1) went 4-1 recently, with their lone in-conference loss coming Jan. 20 to Cross Creek in Augusta, where the Razorbacks narrowly defeated the Braves, 58-55.

Baldwin’s leading scorers versus Cross Creek were Karez Demory with 23 points and Zion Grant with 15 points. Demory also led the Braves in rebounds with six.

Baldwin went 3-0 the rest of the week, beating conference opponents Howard and Richmond Academy, and then Washington County to improve its record to 17-3 for the season. The Braves held their trio of opponents to 31 points, 33 points, and 41 points, respectively.

In the Braves’ matchup versus Washington County, Jaylen King scored five points and led the team with eight rebounds. Demory again led the Braves in scoring with 19 points, plus seven rebounds.

Baldwin hit the road this week, opening with a 72-48 conference win on Tuesday at Hephzibah, where Demory was again top scorer and named Player of the Game.

The Braves play Friday in a conference match-up at Westside in Augusta, then return home to host Washington County at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Three regular-season games remain on the schedule after Saturday, including in-conference home games Feb. 3 against Howard and Feb. 6 versus Aquinas.
