Georgia Military College (GMC) recently announced the recipients of its 2026 GMC Prep School Teacher of the Year, GMC Employee of the Year, and GMC Educator of the Year honors. These annual recognitions celebrate outstanding members of the GMC community who exemplify excellence through their dedication to students, leadership, and service to the institution.
Lauryn Baugh was named GMC Prep School Teacher of the Year. A 2010 graduate of GMC Prep School, Baugh returned to her alma mater to join the Prep School faculty team as a Kindergarten teacher during the inaugural year of the school’s Kindergarten program in 2021.
Since then, she has made a meaningful impact in the classroom through her passion for education and commitment to student success.
In addition to teaching, she serves as co-coach of the GMC Prep girls varsity basketball team alongside her husband, Nolan Baugh, a 2011 GMC Prep graduate.
Celes Mason has been named GMC Employee of the Year in recognition of her exceptional service and dedication to the institution and its students. Mason recently celebrated 20 years of service to GMC, having joined the institution on April 17, 2006.
She currently serves as Dean of Students for GMC’s Main Campus, where she oversees and coordinates many student events and activities that enhance campus life and student engagement.
Throughout her tenure, Mason has served in several key areas across the institution, including Advancement, Academic Affairs, Advising, and Main Campus Operations.
After previously leaving GMC to serve with the Milledgeville Convention & Visitors Bureau, she returned to continue her impactful work supporting the GMC community.
Mark Fairbrass was named GMC Educator of the Year. As the institution’s longest-serving full-time faculty member, Fairbrass will celebrate 30 years of service to GMC this September. Throughout his tenure, he has served as a full-time Biology professor and has played a significant role in shaping academic experience for countless students.
Fairbrass earned his undergraduate degree from the University College of Wales and completed his postgraduate studies at the University College of North Wales. In addition to teaching, he currently serves in several academic leadership roles, including the Department Chair, Degree Program Coordinator, and Curriculum Chair.
These award recipients represent the dedication, excellence, and servant leadership that define Georgia Military College. Their contributions continue to make a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and the broader GMC community.
