Allied Arts launched “The Big Click” photography exhibit on Dec. 3, running until Dec. 28 at the Marlor House in Milledgeville.
Allied Arts began hosting an annual photography exhibit in 2006 as a “signature event,” according to Program Coordinator Kristin Allen. The exhibit is open to anyone in the Middle Georgia area and does not follow any specific themes.
Rather, the organization allows photographers to submit photos that highlight their best talents.
“The exhibit does not have a theme because we wanted an event that allowed creative freedom and could show the range of talent and expertise within the umbrella of photography,” said Allen.
“The Big Click” has 39 pieces in the exhibit for viewing.
Before the opening reception, a judge reviewed all the submissions and picked three winners that were announced at the reception. The judge picked the winners based on shots, the process, and creativity. Each winner selected received a cash prize.
The first-place winner was Bailey Davidson’s “Coke Is It!”
The second-place winner was Edward Burnam’s “My Love Animal Kelpie” and the third-place was Grace Wood’s “The Grove.” Honorable mentions included “Piano” by Jessica Whitehead, “Silent Night” by Maryllis Wolfgang, and “Smokey Mountain” by Destyn Bailey.
“Everything in the exhibit is absolutely beautiful and we are thankful to each photographer who participated,” said Allen. “Photography touches people and there is an art in how a photographer frames the shot, edits the picture, and more. These artists portrayed an element that touched one of our staff or a viewer.”
Allied Arts works to bring exhibitions to Milledgeville throughout the year and promote various forms of art. According to Allen, this annual exhibit is one that “people look forward to” each year and they plan to continue for many years to come.
“We had a decent turnout for the reception and have had various visitors of different ages come to view the exhibit. Helping artists connect with the community and showing the range of art that is out there to pursue are both goals of Allied Arts,” said Allen.
Allied Art’s next exhibit will focus on local artist Porsha Luca. This exhibit will begin on Jan. 5 and run through Jan. 25.
