Huff’s Market promotes a Georgia-grown community

Huff’s Market hosted its quarterly market day on Saturday partnered with Magnolia Rea’s embroidery shop with over 20 vendors, live music, and homemade meals.

Sitting off Highway 49 toward Macon, Huff’s Market embodies the community-oriented atmosphere that visitors can expect when they arrive in Milledgeville about 5 miles down the road.

The general store sells a wide array of products from fresh produce and local artisanal goods to sausage biscuits and pulled-pork sandwiches.

Owners Dylan and Kensey Amerson reopened the store in 2022 after renovations following its closing in 2021. The store has been in Dylan’s family for almost 60 years. This is the Amerson’s fifth market day with their nextdoor business Magnolia Rea, owned by Julie Crane.

“Our big goal is to support the local community through selling Georgia-grown products in our store and kind of expanding that with market days to support local makers who aren’t necessarily at a point to be carried in a store,” said Kensey Amerson.

The market day at Huff’s offers a great way to support the local community while also eating great food, meeting new people, and supporting a community of small businesses.

One small business at the market was Caruso Candle Company. Jonathan Caruso and his fiancé Ashley started making candles in their kitchen to help support themselves and their family.

While working a full-time remote job, Caruso spends his nights working on the business with his partner and they hope it continues to grow. They offer candles, wax melts, sample packs, and wax trimmers.

More vendors included Wild Routes Studio, a handmade, nature-inspired jewelry business, and Lowell Church with baked goods, among others.

Huff’s Market recently announced the property is for sale, but reassured loyal customers that it will not be the end of the business. They will be open throughout the summer continuing to stock local products, produce, and prepared food that is cherished by the community.
