Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers for a community build near Lowe’s. The event brings together students and local residents to support affordable housing efforts while gaining hands-on service experience.
The build is part of Habitat for Humanity’s mission to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing for families in the community. Volunteers will assist with a range of tasks based on comfort level and experience, including organizing materials, assisting with construction, and supporting the build team on site. No prior construction experience is required.
“This is my first-time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, and I’m really excited to be part of something that directly helps a family,” said volunteer Lilah Gapp, a Georgia College senior. “It feels good knowing the work we do that day actually makes a difference.”
All tools and safety equipment will be provided, and trained supervisors will be available throughout the day to guide volunteers. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing they do not mind getting dirty, along with closed-toe shoes.
Events like the Feb. 7 build are essential to keeping projects on schedule and strengthening the Milledgeville community. Habitat for Humanity relies heavily on volunteer labor to make homeownership more accessible to families in need.
“It’s a great way to meet people and do something productive with your time,” said Kaitlyn Baker, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
Families who partner with Habitat for Humanity contribute sweat equity hours and pay an affordable mortgage, allowing them to achieve long-term housing stability rather than receiving a home for free.
College and high school students can earn volunteer hours and gain practical experience outside the classroom.
Space for volunteers may be limited, so those interested are encouraged to sign up ahead of time. Registered participants will receive additional details, including the meeting time and exact location near Lowe’s, prior to the event. Those unable to attend can still support Habitat for Humanity through donations or by participating in future builds.
