Bands have been one of the most pivotal aspects of Deep Roots since its inaugural year of 2004. This year, Deep Roots organizers are drawing upon more regional bands to entertain the festival goers.
“This year’s a big shift from what we’ve done in the past. Before covid we were focusing on nationally touring bands and having great success,” said James Holder, Deep Roots music organizer. “We also used to charge admissions. It was $8 to enter the concert venue. We made it completely free, and the way to make that work was by highlighting more local artists.”
Deep Roots bands perform from 10 a.m. till the last band ends at 11 p.m. on the mainstage, located in the alley off Hancock Street. This year’s lineup features genres from southern rock, alternative pop, blues, R&B, americana rock, and even a DJ will be performing.
New students all over Georgia College are extremely excited for this event with all these locally grown bands putting their talent on display.
“I’ve been in Milledgeville for the past three Deep Roots, but now that the concerts are free, I am so excited to see what these bands have to offer,” said Gabe Wade, a junior at Georgia College.
Consistent Deep Roots goers are excited as well to see the bands that were chosen for the 2024 Deep Roots lineup.
“Deep Roots is always something I have circled on my calendar and with all these local bands I’m so excited to see what the surrounding area has to offer us in a few weeks,” said Aidan McGowan, a senior at Georgia College.
Here is the breakdown of bands and their schedules:
