Best in Show amazes competition at Deep Roots Car Show

Milledgeville hosted its annual car show, sponsored by the old capital car club, Oct. 19 during the Deep Roots Festival. The show went from 9:00 AM to noon, with beautiful, classic cars lining Wayne and Greene Streets. Rusty Adams, winner of the Best in Show, recently spoke with reporter Amelie Sengupta at the event to discuss his amazing vehicle and what went into the competition.

Sengupta: Congratulations Rusty on winning this year's Deep Roots car show. How does it feel to be recognized at such a major local event?

Adams: I think it is a wonderful event, and I live in Byron, Ga. , and I drove up here just for it.

Sengupta: What is the model, make, year, and color of your car?

Adams: It’s a 1935, model 50, Ford Pickup. It's tequila sunburst orange, an old Harley Davidson color, and it has an LT1 Corvette motor from a 2015 Corvette.

Sengupta: What do you think makes your car stand out from the rest of the competition?

Adams: I don't want to downplay everyone else's vehicles, but there are a lot of people who have  Chevelles, Camaros, and Corvettes. Mine is the only antique truck like that here.

Sengupta: Have you participated in any car shows before, and if so, how many?

Adams: I’ve been in about 15 shows, and I’ve won in 13 of them, just trophies, not best in show.

Sengupta: Wow, so majority of the shows you’ve been in?

Adams: You see they were giving out the top 40? I’m always in the top 40.

Sengupta: What inspired you to start doing this?

Adams: My dad had an antique truck, and it was old and rusted, and my dad’s passed away now, so I enjoy it. I like looking at them, I like showing them, and I really like working on them.

Sengupta: How long have you had this car and have there been any upgrades you have done to it?

Adams: I’ve had this one for 2 years. I had a 1935 before that and this one I’ve completely chromed the motor and completely done the undercarriage.

Sengupta: Were there any other cars or participants that caught your eye during the show that you think were a close competition to you?

Adams: I liked the 1960 Red Impala.
