Allied Arts hosts Thank You For Your Service

Last Wednesday, Allied Arts hosted its Thank You For Your Service Exhibit, showcasing the works of military veterans from the Georgia War Veterans Home (GWVH) in honor of their service.

Rebekah Tobar, executive director of Allied Arts, said that this is their second year working with the veterans. Last year, the team at Allied Arts collaborated with GWVH Activities Director Michelle Flood to bring the exhibit to the community.

The veterans home offered activities that support rehabilitation, including its art program. The residents participate in a range of different art forms like painting, drawing, bean mosaic art, and many others.

The veterans attended the reception and enjoyed refreshments and fellowship while being able to see their art displayed on the walls of the John Marlor house. Some family members of the veterans also attended.

Many of the pieces depicted nature and landscapes, or beloved pets and family members. Others were self-portraits or drawings of things that interest them. One drawing expressed appreciation for the arts program offered at the home reading, “Thanks for the art class.”

The team at Allied Arts has issued a call to artists who would like to donate a piece of artwork for the residents of the Georgia War Veterans Home. All art can be dropped off at 201 N. Wayne St. at the John Marlor Arts Center during the month of July and the residents can take the pieces home when they come to collect their art.
