• Road America is a motorsport road course located near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, on Wisconsin Highway 67. It has hosted races since the 1950s.

• It’s one of only a handful of road circuits in the world maintaining its original configuration being 4.048 miles (6.515 km) in length with 14 turns. The track features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds approaching 200 mph may be reached. Its best known feature is a turn on the backside known as “the kink.” • Open seating allows spectators to venture

• Open seating allows spectators to venture throughout the grounds. Grandstands are available in several locations, as well as hillside seating where crowds of 150,000 can be accommodated.

• First race: In 1955, the SCCA National, the highest form of road racing at the time, featured a 148-mile race for the era’s large sports racing cars. It became a duel between Sherwood Johnson of Rye, N.Y., and Phil Hill of Santa Monica, Calif. As they approached the finish line, Hill inched ahead and barely won the race with an average speed of 80.2 mph.
