Class AAA powerhouse Peach County defeated Baldwin High 50-20 on Friday at Braves Field.
Trojans’ junior quarterback Colter Ginn proved to be a lot for the Braves in their opener.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound signal-caller passed for over 270 yards and three touchdowns in the first two quarters alone against Baldwin’s defense this past Friday night.
It all started on Peach County’s first drive as Ginn connected with wide receiver Dylan Johnson for an 85-yard score. The junior hauled in a quick pass across the middle and glided down the field towards the end zone, which put the Trojans up 7-0 after the PAT.
Peach County would score again before the Braves were able to get on the board. Junior running back Micah Welch returned a long kickoff to the end zone, but the Trojans were able to block the extra point. They led 14-6 with 10:49 left in the first quarter.
A series of turnovers plagued the Braves for the rest of the first half. Peach County had a 14-point lead at the end of the opening quarter. Ginn continued to dominate as he stood tall in the pocket, tossing for two other touchdowns in the first half for the Trojans.
Welch, who has offers from Georgia and Tennessee, among others, rushed for another score as time expired at the end of the first half. His effort made it a 37-13 contest after Baldwin’s kicker nailed the PAT, but the momentum still belonged to Peach County.
The Trojans stuck to a run-first mentality for the rest of the contest. They added two more touchdowns via the ground to reach the half-century mark in the third quarter. The Braves would find the end zone once more in garbage time late in the fourth.
Baldwin has a chance to redeem itself against neighboring Putnam County this Friday. The Braves and War Eagles haven’t played since 1977, according to the Georgia High School Football Historic Association. The kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Al Reaves Field.
