Georgia College & State University (GCSU) men’s basketball (6-13, 2-8 PBC) suffered a pair of tough home losses last week. The first came Wednesday in a 69-54 loss to Lander University. The next was Saturday in a close 69-64 contest against Columbus State University.
The Bobcats outscored by 40-30 in the first half against Lander, who had the hot hands throughout the game. Coming out of halftime, the GCSU defense put more pressure on, limiting Lander to just 29 points in the second half, but GCSU was able to net only 24 points, not nearly enough to complete the second-half comeback. Despite the loss, the Bobcats had two doubledigit scorers to lead the offense. Brendan Rigsbee from Suwanee led the squad with 14 points, going 7-for-16 from field goal range. Lawrenceville’s Ian Davis was a single point behind Rigsbee with 13 points on the night.
Davis went 4-for-11 from field-goal range, including 3-for-6 from behind the arc.
Davis also doubled as the team’s leading rebounder, nabbing seven. He took four under the Bobcats basket and three under the Cougars basket. Both Rigsbee and Brandon Thomas were the team’s second-leading rebounders with six apiece.
Anxious to rebound with a win in the weekend contest against Columbus State University (CSU), the GCSU team fell just a little short after a CSU second-half rally.
GCSU led the scoring 32-29 going into halftime.
That point total seemed to be the magic number for the Bobcats as they again put up 32 points in the second half, but the Cougars responded with 40 of their own to pick up the 69-64 win.
Like the Lander game, the Bobcats had two double-digit scorers, but this time it was Thomas joining Rigsbee at the top of the GCSU scoring list.
Rigsbee iced 17 points, going 7-for-13 from fieldgoal range and 2-for-3 from three-point range, while Thomas had an impressive contest, netting 11 points after going 4-for-7 from field goal range and 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Austin Sloan of Warner Robins, led Georgia College in rebounding with eight, counting five of them under the defensive basket. Rigsbee was the Bobcats’ second-leading rebounder with six, nabbing three under each basket.
