As the Kiwanis Club Art Showcase at the John Marlor Art Center wraps up, it leaves behind more than just artwork on the walls. It leaves a reminder of how much artistic talent exists in Milledgeville.
Hosted by Allied Arts in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Milledgeville, the showcase featured artwork from 10th through 12th grade students from public, private and home schools in the area. Each student submitted one piece, ranging from paintings and drawings to photography and sculpture.
Some paintings were bright and bold, while others were softer and more detailed. A few photographs captured simple, everyday moments but somehow made them feel meaningful. Even the three-dimensional pieces stood out, carefully displayed and clearly created with a lot of time and effort.
What made the exhibit feel special was knowing that every piece was created by a local high school student. It felt more personal than walking through a large museum.
Student attendee Lizzie Kulpa said the showcase stood out to her because of how seriously it treats student creativity.
“I like that it gives students a real place to show their art,” Kulpa said. “It makes it feel important, like what they create actually matters.”
The Kiwanis Club Art Showcase ran from Feb.
6-26, but its impact goes beyond those dates.
Giving students the opportunity to see their work displayed in a professional gallery setting can build confidence and inspire them to keep creating.
