MILLY’S BIGGEST DAY

DEEP ROOTS ALL SET FOR SATURDAY

This weekend, the weather will finally feel like fall, just in time for Milledgeville’s biggest fall festival.

The Deep Roots Festival is all set to take over downtown this Saturday. For the fifth straight year, admission into the festival is free.

An estimated 44,000 people attended last year’s festival, according to organizers.

For the most part, in terms of logistics, it will be a copy/paste of last year’s festival. 10 a.m. is the official start time, while the Georgia Military College Color Guard will take the concert stage at 10:45 and play the national anthem. This year’s music headliner is West Virginia singer-songwriter Clayton Nile Young. He’ll take the stage at 8:30 p.m.

Similar to the last two years, the Bug House Pest Control “End Zone” will show college football on a 17-foot screen, including the Georgia vs. Auburn game at 3:30 p.m.

The Open Car Show, which is one of the OG’s of the Deep Roots Festival, begins at 10 a.m. and wraps up at 4 p.m.

Admission into the Georgia Military College Kids Zone is $10 for smaller kids and $15 for bigger kids.

This is the 23rd October festival in downtown Milledgeville, which began on the front campus of Georgia College & State University as the Sweetwater Festival. Around 20 years ago, the Sweetwater Brewing Company in Atlanta got lawyers involved, so festival organizers called an audible and rebranded the event as Deep Roots.
