John Milledge Academy improved to 4-0 with a hardfought 35-23 win over Bulloch Academy last Friday night on Log Cabin Road.
The victory extended the Trojans' winning streak to 13, dating back to a 28-14 loss at Athens Academy in the third game of the 2025 season. In other words, JMA hasn't lost a game in more than a year.
The Trojans dominated the Gators with their ground game, rushing for 276 yards, four touchdowns and an average of 7.1 yards per carry.
“We knew it was gonna be a tough, physical football game,” Head coach J.T. Wall said. “We needed that tonight to see where our guys react. We still got a ton of stuff we’ve gotta clean up. Proud of the guys up front on both sides of the football. Defensively, we’ve just got to limit the big play. They big played us twice on two messups, hats off to them for the play, but we kind of had some miscommunication and they took advantage of it.”
Last Friday night was the first true test for JMA. Bulloch trailed 14-0 at halftime but fought back to cut the lead to 14-9 after the Gators forced a safety and then scored a touchdown on the following drive.
However, the Trojans began to pull away in the middle of the third quarter, when quarterback Nathan Snow connected with tight end Asa Wall for a 12-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 21-9.
But again, the Gators fought back and cut the lead to 21-15 when Bulloch’s Sam Hubbard connected with Billy Crider for a 75-yard touchdown pass. Asa Wall gave JMA the last score they would need to sustain the win with a six-yard TD run.
Brayden Faulkner intercepted a Bulloch pass late in the fourth quarter to set up running back Cayden Wingfield for his 65-yard rushing TD to ice the game. Bulloch scored a late fourth quarter touchdown but the Trojans secured the 35-23 win.
“We knew it was gonna be tough, we knew that going in,” Wall said. “They (Bulloch) are gonna go a long way in 4A and they do a great job over there.”
Next up is another home game this Friday at Ted S. Smith Stadium against the Loganville Christian Academy Lions. The Lions have struggled, beginning the season 1-2, including a pair of blowout losses to GIAA Class AA programs. The Lions earned their first win of the season last Friday with a dominant 38-0 win over Cross Keys. LCA has just 107 rushing yards for the season and only five touchdowns.
