CREATE Inc. youth cyclists have successfully completed the internationally recognized London-to-Paris 24-Hour Cycling Challenge, riding approximately 184 miles from London to Paris in an unforgettable journey of endurance, leadership, cultural exposure, and personal transformation.
The ride, which began in Greenwich, London and concluded beneath the iconic Eiffel Tower, pushed the youth riders through steep hills, heavy rain, exhaustion, overnight ferry travel, and nearly nonstop cycling across two countries in less than 24 hours.
“This was never just about riding bikes. Our youth proved that they can overcome obstacles, adapt to unfamiliar environments, and accomplish goals bigger than they ever imagined possible. Watching them roll into Paris after battling hills, rain, exhaustion, and fear was one of the most emotional moments of my life. These young people discovered strength they did not know they had, and no one can ever take that away from them.”
Before departing for Europe, CREATE youth spent months preparing through intensive training rides, endurance building, teamwork exercises, and mechanical preparation. Community support played a major role in making the opportunity possible, including assistance from Oconee Outfitters, which helped ensure the bicycles were road ready before departure.
In addition to completing the endurance ride itself, the group explored major historic and cultural landmarks including Buckingham Palace, London Bridge, the Royal Observatory Greenwich, Louvre Museum, and Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Organizers say the experience provided much more than physical achievement.
“The older students naturally stepped into leadership roles, helping guide and encourage the younger riders throughout the journey,” Barnes added. “What we witnessed was mentorship, growth, resilience, and family. These are the moments that shape lives.”
Special recognition was also given to coordinating and supporting the group throughout the international experience.
CREATE leaders emphasized the trip reflects the organization’s broader mission of providing innovative opportunities that expand horizons for young people in Middle Georgia through education, health, arts, leadership, and experiential learning.
Community leaders, churches, businesses, sponsors, volunteers, and donors from across the region contributed financially and emotionally to help make the trip possible.
“Every donation mattered. Every prayer mattered. Every encouraging word mattered,” said Barnes. “This journey showed our youth that the world is bigger than their circumstances and that they belong anywhere their dreams take them.”
