The second the weather warms up in Milledgeville, everything changes. The birds start chirping, the library gets quiet, and people start getting out of their houses. Whether it’s tanning by the pool, going on walks outside, or catching a ball in the front yard, warm weather brings an irresistible energy to campus.
For many students, the appeal is simple: be outside, no matter what.
GCSU freshman Addie Musgrove describes her sunny day routine as her and all her roommates piling into her Jeep, blasting music, and heading to the rec center to play sports and games together. Her fun and chaotic days, even sneaking subs from the Max, captures how the warm weather turns a slow town into small, exciting moments and experiences worth repeating.
Freshman Karsyn O’Hara uses the warm weather to her advantage to get a little crazy.
“Me and my girls run to the train tracks and jump over the bridge into the water,” she said, although admitting it once ended in stitches she had to hide from her parents.
Her experiences reflect how much the warm weather brings out the happiness in people. Things they weren’t able to do in the cold are suddenly available and ready to take on. There’s a sense of urgency to make memories.
On the other hand, some students approach the season a little more strategically.
Senior Christopher Matthews joked about avoiding traditional dates because of the heat and taking girls to the lake instead.
“It’s prime time for water dates,” he said. “I’ll have girls jump in the water with me so I can see what they look like without makeup.”
Sophomore Piper Weatherly enjoys walking the Greenway, laying out by the pool, and spending time with friends on the porch, but she also notices how campus transforms in many ways.
“You see Milledgeville come alive a little bit more,” she said.
Warm weather isn’t just about individual plans; it bonds people and forces them to come together. Front campus fills up, sunset games start, and everyday life becomes more social.
Junior Caroline Heard blends productivity with the outdoors, choosing to study outside and go on walks with friends. She even mentioned buying a small pool from Dollar General, proving that students don’t need elaborate plans or expensive items to enjoy the good weather.
At its core, warm weather in Milledgeville isn’t about one specific thing to do, it’s about the city coming to life.
