GMC names Ransom as chief of police

Georgia Military College appointed Wes Ransom as chief of police, joining the GMC family with over 15 years of law enforcement experience in patrol, investigations, campus safety, and command-level leadership.

Ransom most recently served as patrol lieutenant with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, where he oversaw personnel, operations, and community engagement. A certified instructor in active shooter response and civilian response (C.R.A.S.E.), he has led officer development programs and emergency preparedness initiatives while earning recognition for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to public safety. His background also includes service with Georgia College and Greene County Sheriff’s Office, giving him unique insight into both traditional policing and campus law enforcement.

As chief, Ransom will oversee all aspects of public safety, emergency response, and law enforcement operations across GMC’s residential College here at Main Campus, for security reporting/tracking for our satellite locations, and for the Preparatory School (K–12). He will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors; leading campus-wide emergency preparedness and crisis response; maintaining positive relationships with local, state, and federal agencies; and fostering a culture of trust, respect, and accountability within the GMC Department of Public Safety.

Ransom is a proud GMC alumnus and Prep School parent. His leadership, expertise, and dedication to community partnership will serve the institution and its mission with distinction.
