GMC to host Patriot Day events

Georgia Military College (GMC) will commemorate the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, with its annual Patriot Day events on Thursday, Sept. 11, at its main campus in Milledgeville.

The day will begin with a ceremony at 7:40 a.m. on Grant Parade Field. This solemn event will honor the lives lost during the tragic terrorist attacks in 2001 and will include a moment of silence, the playing of “Taps,” and special remarks by 14th Sergeant Major Al McMichael, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired), senior vice president for Leadership Development at NewDay USA. The ceremony is a long-standing tradition at GMC, reflecting the institution’s deep commitment to service and remembrance.

Following the ceremony, all local heroes are invited to the First Responder Thank You Reception taking place in the Bulldog Room.

Later in the day, Gen.

James L. Jones, U.S.

Marine Corps (Retired), founder and president of Jones Group International, will deliver a keynote address at 2:30 p.m. in the NewDay USA Center of Leadership as part of the NewDay USA Leadership Speaker Series. This event is free and open to the public and is designed to educate and inspire the next generation of leaders and the broader community.

Prior to his White House service, Jones served as the 32nd Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, the most senior position in the Corps, as well as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, and commander of U.S. European Command, where he led NATO’s largest combat mission in history and directed operations across 92 countries.

Now president of Jones Group International, Jones advises global leaders on energy security, national and international security, market access and trade promotion, and strategic leadership.
