CRIME WATCH

Man steals Little Debbie snacks

On Aug. 20, law enforcement was dispatched to the Jet Food Store, at 301 E. Hancock St., in reference to a shoplifting that already occurred. Surveillance footage showed two males paying for items. One male had a bag in his left hand while the other was paying.

The male holding the bag took a Little Debbie snack and placed it into his bag. The other male continued to talk to the employee at the register and the male with the bag stepped in front of the rack, grabbing two more snacks. Both males left the store without paying for the items. Employees helped to identify the male that stole the snacks as Travis Yarber. A warrant for theft by shoplifting was issued.

Underage drinkers cited at Velvet Elvis

On Aug. 22, law enforcement was notified via radio of a possible fight in front of Velvet Elvis, 113 W. Hancock St. Three subjects, later identified as Preston Abrams, Beckett Singleton, and Joshua Driver, were standing in front of the bar. Singleton and Driver stated their friend, Abrams, was inside the bar when the bouncer attempted to force him out of the bar. Singleton and Driver stated due to Abrams not seeing it was a bouncer, he took the bouncer to the ground. Multiple bouncers then removed Abrams from the business.

Abrams reportedly began to argue back and forth until he sprinted at another bouncer and attempted to take him to the ground.

Due to the statements provided by Singleton and Driver, an officer gathered their Georgia driver’s licenses and discovered both Singleton and Driver were under the age of 21. Both were cited as minors in possession of alcohol.

The initial bouncer that was tackled said he did not wish to pursue charges against Abrams.

The second bouncer stated after Abrams was removed from the bar, he was talking with other bouncers when Abrams sprinted towards him and tackled him to the ground. Abrams’ friends and other bouncers helped separate Abrams from him.

Due to the findings on scene, Abrams was cited for disorderly conduct, minor in possession of alcohol, and public drunkenness. All subjects were released on scene.

Drunk driver stopped in Putnam County

On Aug. 24, law enforcement was patrolling the 3000 block of North Columbia Street when a 2007 Chevrolet Impala traveling north with no tag lights passed an officer. The officer caught up to the vehicle inside of Putnam County and it sped up. The driver, identified as Tate Hurlburt, turned on the vehicle’s hazard lights near the intersection with Cay Drive but continued traveling north maintaining the speed limit. Hurlburt eventually pulled into the driveway of 108 Pecan Pt., and stopped inside the garage of the residence. Hurlburt smelled of an alcoholic beverage. He agreed to submit to the state-administered chemical test of his blood but later declined because he wanted to go to an out of county hospital. Hurlburt was issued citations for DUI-Refusal and no tag lights. A warrant for misdemeanor fleeing/attempting to elude an officer was sworn against him, too.
