Males steal juice boxes from Chipotle
On Aug. 13, law enforcement was dispatched to Chipotle, at 2399 N.
Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting and threats. The manager stated his employee, Jayden Mosley, was getting harassed by customers. While looking at camera footage for this incident, the manager realized the same males had shoplifted, stealing two juice cartons: $3 each. Camera footage showed four males and an employee checking customers out. The employee walked to the back to get something and, as he does, one of the males stole a juice box. Shortly after, another male stole one but did not get a good grip and left it. A minute goes by, and the male steals a second juice carton. All three males can be seen laughing while this is taking place. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, the males had yet to be identified.
Marijuana found during traffic stop
On Aug. 15, while patrolling the area of Minor Road and Lover’s Lane, law enforcement observed a 2008 Honda Accord with a non-functioning passenger side brake light. An officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the same intersection. While speaking with the driver, Jontavious Byner, the officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Byner stated he had some marijuana in the center console. The officer conducted a search of the vehicle and located approximately an ounce of marijuana. They also located a Glock 19 in the pocket behind the passenger seat. Two state warrants were secured on Byner for felony possession of marijuana and felony possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.
Vehicle found crashed into home
On Aug. 15, law enforcement was dispatched to a vehicle crash at 1863 Vinson Hwy., Lot 29 in the back of a mobile home. The back quarter of the car was under the house. Significant damage was done to the underpinning, siding, and pipes, and to its block foundation. The resident of the home stated that the floor inside the residence had buckled. The driver identified herself as Tammie Hughey and stated she was visiting her mother at Lot 21. Hughey stated she came down near Lot 29 to turn around, when her brakes stopped working as she was reversing. Hughey stated she was unable to control the vehicle and it crashed into the house.
While speaking with her, the officer detected the odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from her person. Hughey stated she last consumed a beer that morning. Hughey consented to a field sobriety test, but the officer could not complete it due to not seeing a suitable area to conduct further field sobriety testing. The entire area was surrounded by gravel and uneven terrain. She also consented to a PBT test but failed to provide a sample three times. At the police department, Hughey provided a sample on the Intoxilyzer 9000 and the test indicated a breath alcohol content of 0.114 with no errors indicated. Hughey received a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Wanted man located at traffic stop
On Aug. 16, while an officer was on patrol in the area of Highway 24 and Deepstep Road, an officer checked the tag of an F-150 passing by. The tag came back on GCIC as expired since Jan. 2.
Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop with the truck and came to a stop on Deepstep Road. The driver, Julius Brown, stated the truck is registered to his mother, but he primarily drives the truck. According to the report, Brown exhibited nervous behavior and advised the officer that there was nothing illegal in the vehicle. A GCIC check revealed that Brown had an active arrest warrant out of Putnam County for forgery. The officer retrieved a black 9mm YC9 Hi-Point semi-automatic firearm loaded with a 10 round magazine from the vehicle. Upon review of Brown’s criminal history, an officer found that Brown was convicted of felony forgery in the fourth degree on Nov. 21, 2024, in Baldwin County. Central Georgia Towing took possession of the vehicle. One state warrant was secured on Brown for felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Brown also received a misdemeanor traffic citation for expired registration. A hold for Putnam County was placed for his outstanding warrant.
Shoplifter steals soap
On Aug. 17, law enforcement was dispatched to The Dollar General, located at 101 Register Rd., in reference to a theft. Teresa Luna-Reyes was stopped as she was returning to her vehicle. An employee stated that Luna-Reyes was taking a bottle of Dawn dish soap off the shelf and concealed it in her bag. Surveillance footage confirmed this story. Luna-Reyes stated she did not realize she had done it and that she remembered taking it out of her bag and putting it back on the shelf. There was no portion of the surveillance footage that showed her putting it back on the shelf. Her receipt also did not show a purchase of the soap. During a search of her vehicle, an officer located the Dawn dish soap. Luna-Reyes was placed under arrest for theft by shoplifting.
Woman arrested for assault
On Aug. 17, law enforcement was dispatched to 122 Garrett Way in reference to an assault. A Baldwin County deputy spoke with Azucena Gaeta Sandoval as a translator. Sandoval stated that she went to New Beginning Worship Center, located at 200 Southside Dr., with her husband, Kennier De La Cruz, when they were approached by Katherine Tipan Medina. Sandoval stated that Medina asked her about past due rent in the amount of $107.
Sandoval stated that she did not owe Medina any money and that Medina then slapped her. De La Cruz stated that Medina approached him, and Sandoval talking about past due money and then slapped Sandoval on the left side of her face. There were no marks on Sandoval’s face. Sandoval wanted to pursue charges against Medina. The deputy spoke with Medina, who stated that she and Sandoval got into a verbal altercation outside of the church. Medina stated that Sandoval called her a curse word, so she slapped her. A warrant was sworn for simple battery for Medina.
