JMA’s Wall seeks breakout season

John Milledge Academy sophomore linebacker and tight end Asa Wall has been among Georgia’s highest recruited sophomores this summer.

Wall enjoyed a great freshman campaign last season, tallying 62 solo tackles and 32 assisted for a team-best 92 total tackles. He also led the team in tackles per game with 8.5 and a team-best 11 tackles for loss.

On the offensive side of the ball, Wall led the team in total touchdowns with eight and had 20 catches for 304 yards receiving as well as 56 carries for 229 yards rushing with a 4.1 yards per carry average.

Wall’s recruitment has soared over the spring and summer so far as he has already received offers from the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Vanderbilt, with more expected to come.

“It’s been fun going to all the (football) camps and being able to experience what it feels like to be a recruit,” Wall said of his experience so far. “I’ve enjoyed being able to compete against some of the best competition at these camps and getting one-on-one coaching from the college coaches.”

Wall also said he’s been surprised at how quickly his recruitment has heated up.

“I wasn’t expecting it to happen this fast, but I know I have to keep working to get better,” he said.

His father and JMA head coach J.T. Wall has been just as surprised but remains proud of his son and his recruitment thus far.

“It has been somewhat surreal this summer,” Coach Wall said of his son’s recruitment. “I’ve seen how hard he works and the time and effort he puts into getting better each day, but I’d be lying if I said I thought it would be happening the way it is now.”

The coach added, though, his son has to “keep working each day to keep getting better.”

As for the rest of the Trojans football team, they will begin their pre-season camp later this month to prepare for their season opener Friday, Aug. 15 at Bethlehem Christian Academy. JMA’s home opener is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, against Augusta Christian.
