Woman caught shoplifting at Walmart
On July 1, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.
Columbia St., in reference to a shoplifting. Loss prevention personnel stated Janet P. Geib paid for $128.52 worth of items but shoplifted $132.70 worth of other items. Personnel provided a training receipt not listing $132.70 worth of items that were taken past the last payment area without payment.
Geib stated she did not know why she did this and stated she was arrested for shoplifting once a long time ago, which was confirmed from a criminal history check. Geib was issued and signed a citation for second offense of shoplifting under $500.
Male arrested for aggravated assault
On July 3, law enforcement was dispatched to 1126 Oconee St. in reference to aggravated assault. The victim stated she was in front of her residence with her father when a male subject, later identified as Ronnie Watkins, stopped in the roadway traveling south in a gray General Motors Company Denali and began to yell at them. She advised she could not understand what the male was saying because he was mumbling and appeared intoxicated.
Watkins reportedly pointed a gun at her and her father in front of her four children. The father corroborated the events. The father said he told the male subject to put the gun down and the subject put the gun down and left the location. Through further investigation, an officer located the vehicle that was in the area. The victim positively identified the male subject from a photo. An officer contacted Watkins at his residence, and he stated the victim and several of her friends “jumped” him in a previous incident. Watkins said he stopped in front of her residence and told her he remembered what she did and picked up his cellphone. He stated he does not own a firearm and did not point a firearm at either of the victims. Watkins was placed in double locked handcuffs and transported to Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center. Two warrants for aggravated assault were secured for Watkins.
Driver caught with methamphetamine
On July 3, while monitoring traffic at Irwinton Road and Harrisburg Road, an officer’s Axon 3 dash camera license plate reader alerted to a Hyundai Accent with a registered owner who did not
possess a valid license. A GCIC inquiry revealed that the registered owner, identified as Terrell Sanders, held only an expired Georgia learner’s permit. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Thomas Field Road and Belfair Drive. Upon speaking with Sanders, he admitted he was aware his license was invalid and stated he was on his way to get food before heading home. Sanders exhibited signs of nervousness, including profuse sweating, body tremors, and visible carotid artery pulsation in his neck. Sanders exited the vehicle and when asked for consent to search the vehicle, he initially declined, and stated that the only item inside the vehicle was a backpack. The officer informed Sanders that based on his behavior and physical signs, they suspected he may be under the influence of a substance.
Sanders’ consented to a standardized field sobriety evaluation and the officer began the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. However, due to Sanders’ excessive sweating and inability to track the stimulus properly, they discontinued the evaluation. Sanders then admitted to consuming alcohol the night prior and using methamphetamine four days earlier. Sanders eventually admitted to possessing a small amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle and granted consent to search the backpack. Inside a pouch in the backpack, a deputy on scene found a small bag and a clear container, both containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. A warrant for possession of methamphetamine was secured against Sanders.
Customer reportedly steals wine
On July 5, law enforcement was dispatched to Dollar General, at 102 Robins Dr., in reference to shoplifting.
The shift manager stated a woman, later identified as Kenya Howard, stole wine after insisting to an employee that someone else would pay for it. Howard reportedly used to be an employee of the store. Howard left in a black Nissan Altima with silver accents. Camera footage showed Howard on camera with a bottle of wine in a grocery bag. Law enforcement attempted to make contact with Howard at her residence, but she was not home. A friend at the residence connected law enforcement to her via phone. Howard admitted to being at the Dollar General on July 4 but stated she did not steal the bottle of wine. One state warrant was secured for Kenya Howard for theft by shoplifting. Law enforcement planned to make contact with Howard in-person upon her return on July 6.
