Milledgeville honors LaTasha R. Butts with memorial highway dedication

>> LEGACY

Local and state leaders gathered June 24 to officially unveil the LaTasha R.

Butts Memorial Highway at the intersection of Highway 49 and the 441 Milledgeville Bypass. The event commemorated the legacy of LaTasha R. Butts, a beloved native of Milledgeville, a Baldwin County School District distinguished alumnus, whose impact extended far beyond her hometown.

State Representative Floyd Griffin presided over the ceremony, offering reflections on Butts’ life, advocacy, and the deep pride Baldwin County continues to hold in her achievements. Representative Mack Jackson also accompanied the dedication ceremony, marking the official installation of highway signage, following the bill’s passage and signing into law by the 2025 Georgia General Assembly.

Butts was known not only for her career in collegiate athletics but also for her courage and advocacy in the fight against breast cancer. Her strength, leadership, and resilience left an enduring mark on all who knew her. The highway naming stands as a permanent tribute to her legacy and serves as a source of inspiration for future generations.

Community members, elected officials, and family gathered at the site for the unveiling, joining together to honor a daughter of Milledgeville whose life continues to uplift and unite the community.
