The Flournoy Cares Foundation hosted its 2025 Scholarship Awards Ceremony June 28 under the banner “Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders and Honoring Today’s Champion” at the Tubman African American Museum in Macon.
The evening was a celebration of achievements by scholars, volunteers, and community champions who embody the values of service, innovation, and unwavering dedication to empowering others, and promoting generational legacy.
Twenty-five scholars, including first-generation and post-secondary students, were each awarded $3,000 scholarships to pursue academic paths in fields ranging from engineering and medicine to the arts and public service.
Scholars shared their visions for the future, while previous recipients offered powerful testimonies about the impact of the Foundation’s support.
Keynote speaker Dr. Anton Anthony, superintendent of Hancock County Public Schools, delivered an address that urged students to seize the moment with wisdom and courage.
“Use these opportunities as keys,” he said, “to unlock doors to their future success.”
In tribute to community service and leadership, the Foundation also presented the Bridge of Hope Award and the Call to Care Award.
These recognitions were presented by Joshua and Aerin Flournoy, on behalf of the family’s foundation. Honorees included State Representative Floyd Griffin, Milledgeville Mayor Mary Parham-Copelan, Superintendent Dr. Noris Price, historian Beverly Lundy Hill, Joan Barksdale, RN, BSN, MPA., and Lillian Womble CNA, CMA.
Each of these individuals embody the spirit of service, innovation, and unwavering commitment to empower others and build stronger Georgia communities.
The evening concluded with reflections from Caleb Flournoy, CFO, whoissuedaheartfelt challengetothescholars: to rise as leaders and carry the torch forward. Foundation President & CEO Faris Flournoy shared the Flournoy family’s personal journey and encouraged students to nurture the “seed of faith” planted in them that evening.
Closing remarks came from Evalena B. Flournoy, matriarch of the Flournoy family and executive director of the foundation, who thanked the scholars, attendees, volunteers, and committee members whose dedication made the evening a success.
