Unknown man steals ribeye steaks

On June 17, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.

Columbia St., in reference to a shoplifting that has already occurred. Asset protection was reviewing video and found an incident on June 8, where a male took four packs of ribeye steaks, totaling $129.03, and concealed them in his jacket. A picture of the man and the vehicle that dropped him off were provided to law enforcement but nothing else has been reported as of press time.

In addition, asset protection reported several packs of AirPods were stolen from a display. Personnel removed the rest of the items from the display.

Passenger arrested for possession of methamphetamine On June 19, while patrolling the area of Irwinton Road and Harrisburg Road, law enforcement observed a pickup truck pulling a trailer without operable brake lights. The driver was identified as Lee Thomas and the passenger, as Terrill Jones. Jones had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear and was immediately placed under arrest. Jones informed police he had personal items in a backpack in the vehicle, though the bag was not his. With permission, an officer went to retrieve the items and discovered a glass pipe with residue inside, a digital scale, and a clear jar with a crystal-like substance, suspected to be methamphetamine. When asked, Jones stated he consumed illegal narcotics but the narcotics in the bag did not belong to him. Due to Jones admitting he had been in possession of the bag, along with his personal items being inside the bag, Jones was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Thomas was released with verbal warnings for driving a vehicle without working brake lights and not having a valid registration on the trailer. Jones was charged with VGCSA possession of methamphetamine along with his outstanding warrant.

Driver becomes irate after vehicle collision

On June 20, law enforcement responded to 3061 N. Columbia St. in reference to a vehicle accident. Ja’Kayla Hill, a driver involved in the vehicle accident, was in front of her vehicle reportedly acting irate and refusing to comply with instructions to call someone for a ride from the scene. Hill continuously used inappropriate language that “incited an immediate breach of peace, and began screaming.” A lieutenant and the reporting officer moved the other vehicle involved in the vehicle collision.

Hill reportedly became more aggressive while waiting for a tow-truck to arrive.

She continued to use foul language and make inappropriate statements in the presence of a juvenile, other teenagers on scene, and the general public. One state warrant is pending on Ja’Kayla Hill for disorderly conduct. Hill was transported to the jail without incident.

Speeder crashes into guard rail

On June 21, while on patrol on State Route 540, an officer observed a silver sedan traveling east at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was traveling 91 miles per hour in a posted 65 mph zone. The officer did a U-turn at the intersection of Stembridge Road and State Route 540 to conduct the traffic stop, but the driver had accelerated to a higher rate of speed, and crested a hill before the officer could confirm the speeds at which the vehicle was traveling.

The officer located the vehicle on the opposite side of the road, where it had just collided with a guard-rail. The driver, later identified as Qasiim Moore, was attempting to exit the vehicle through the passenger side door.

He was detained as he was exiting. EMS arrived on scene and cleared Moore of any injuries.

Dispatch advised the officer that Moore’s South Carolina driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle was a rental car belonging to Enterprise Rental Car. Moore was transported to the jail without incident, and was turned over to jail personnel. Moore was cited for speeding and driving while license suspended.
