Employee steals over $2,000 from Dollar General
On June 10, law enforcement responded to Dollar General, at 207 Roberson Mill Rd., in reference to a theft. The district manager stated an employee, later identified as Asia Jackson, admitted to taking approximately $2,500 in cash and approximately $200 in value of unpaid items.
Jackson was arrested on-scene without incident and transported to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center. A warrant for felony theft by taking was secured against Jackson. Jackson was also served with a Notice of Prohibited Entry form from the location.
Woman shoplifts $229 of merchandise from Walmart On June 12, the asset manager at Walmart, at 2592 N. Columbia St., reported a shoplifting. Tanisha Cooper was observed through security camera footage at the self-checkout register not scanning items totaling up to $124.94 and walking past the last point of sale.
During a search of Cooper’s person and bag, the officer observed multiple merchandise products in her purse. The items located in Cooper’s purse led to a new total of $229.09. Cooper was issued a citation for shoplifting and transported to Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center without incident.
Woman steals candy and drink from Jet Foods
On June 13, law enforcement was dispatched to Jet Foods, at 301 E.
Hancock St., in reference to shoplifting.
An employee stated a white female wearing blue shorts, a tan shirt, and white slides took a juice and trail mix from the store. Officers began to ride the area in an attempt to locate the subject and found her walking west on East McIntosh Street. An officer recognized the subject as Casey Sparks. Sparks matched the description and was taken into custody. Inside her bag was a juice which was taken from the store. Video footage showed Sparks taking the candy and walking out then returning to take the juice from the cooler and walking back out of the store. The candy was located at the store on top of the propane storage. Sparks was issued a citation for shoplifting and trespassed from the location.
Pair arrested for possession of drugs and eluding police On June 15, while patrolling the area of Irwinton Road and Harrisburg Road, an officer observed a blue Dodge Dakota being operated by a male who was not wearing a seatbelt. A check of the Georgia license plate through GCIC revealed the vehicle did not have valid insurance coverage. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Irwinton Road and State Route 29 Bypass. The driver failed to stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The vehicle reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour speed zone on Gordon Highway. Near Pancras Road, the driver began braking and turned right, narrowly missing a pedestrian. The driver continued onto Pancras Road, then turned left onto Forest Valley Road, and accelerated again. The driver attempted to turn into a driveway at 259 Forest Valley Dr., lost control, and came to a stop.
The driver, later identified as Sherod Mullinax, exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the yards of nearby residences. The officer pursued Mullinax and was able to apprehend him after he tripped over a log. Mullinax was escorted to the patrol vehicle and stated that his passenger, Tara Avant, had given him the contents of his pocket. Incident to arrest, the officer searched Mullinax and located a white pouch containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle revealed two glass pipes with residue and an unknown substance inside a black backpack located near the front passenger seat. After being advised of their Miranda Rights, both Mullinax and Avant agreed to speak, but each denied ownership of the suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Mullinax was charged with possession of methamphetamine, felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of drug-related objects, driving while license suspended, no insurance, and reckless driving. Tara Avant was charged with possession of drug-related objects, allowing an unlicensed person to drive, and permitting operation of an uninsured vehicle.
Unknown man steals Kado Bar Vapes
On June 15, law enforcement was dispatched to JK Korean BBQ, at 201 S. Wayne St., in reference to a robbery.
The complainant reported that approximately 15 minutes prior to calling 9-11, a black male, approximately six feet in height, wearing a red hoodie and black shorts, came into the convenience store portion of their location.
As the complainant stepped away to say goodbye to guests leaving the restaurant, the male jumped over the counter and grabbed approximately 10 Kado Bar Vapes of varying flavors valued at approximately $160 before running away on foot toward CVS. The complainant stated he followed the male in his pickup truck and lost sight of him as he went behind 416 S. Wayne St. Camera footage was reviewed on scene and all statements made by the complainant were verified. The area was thoroughly canvased by officers and while checking around 416 S. Wayne St., it was discovered the residence was unsecured.
Officers cleared the house to ensure the suspect had not fled into the residence.
The suspect has yet to be located.
