Individuals damage police and fire stations
On May 20 law enforcement was dispatched to 254 and 252 Lawrence Road in reference to a burglary. Calvin McMullen stated the front doors of the Central State Police Station and the Fire Station were damaged. McMullen stated he left for lunch around 3-3:30 p.m. and rode by the location and did not see the damage. Around 6 p.m. the damage was discovered. The front door of the police station was completely shattered with glass inside and outside the building.
Officers made entry into the building and three sets of shoe prints were found.
The sets appeared to be a pair of Crocs, Nike Airforce Ones, and a pair of boots with a defined heel. The window to the front door of the fire station was also damaged and believed to have been caused by the fire extinguisher laying by the front door. It did not appear any entry had been made into the Fire Station. The fire extinguisher was collected to prevent further use to gain entry into the building.
Passenger busted with methamphetamine
On May 23, law enforcement was patrolling the area of South Wilkinson Street when an officer observed a Black 2010 Dodge Avenger fail to stop at the stop sign on Wilkinson Street at the intersection of Andrews Street. During the traffic stop, the officer could smell an overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The rear driver's side passenger, identified as Angela Miles, appeared to hide her face.
The driver, Deandrae Hartry, was asked to exit the vehicle and walk to the front of the patrol car. Hartry stated there was no marijuana in the vehicle and the smell is from 'roaches' in the ashtray.
The officer performed a probable cause search of the vehicle and found a black bag in the rear driver's side passenger floorboard. Inside of the bag was a clear plastic bag containing a clear crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Due to the bag being in the floorboard between Miles's legs, she was placed under arrest. A warrant for possession of methamphetamine was secured on Miles.
Drunk driver stopped on North Columbia St.
On May 23, while patrolling the area of North Columbia Street and Martin Luther King Jr Drive, an officer observed a tan Mercury failing its lane of travel. The driver, identified as Jeremy Allen, was unable to locate his driver's license when asked for it. While speaking with him, the officer smelled the odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Allen was reportedly very talkative and had bloodshot eyes.
Allen stated that he had consumed two beers prior to driving. Allen agreed to a Standardized Field Sobriety Test and was determined unsafe to drive. Allen agreed to a state administered breath and tested positive for alcohol with a breath alcohol content of 0.218 grams.
Allen was issued citations for driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane.
Florida man caught with methamphetamine
On May 23, while patrolling South Elbert Street, law enforcement observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe displaying an Idaho license plate. Upon running the tag through GCIC, it was not valid.
An officer initiated a traffic stop at the Dollar General on South Elbert Street.
The driver, William Davis, stated that he had just purchased the vehicle and handed the officer an unsigned copy of the title. Davis further stated that he did not have valid insurance on the vehicle.
Davis was informed that law enforcement would have to tow the vehicle due to its lack of valid insurance. When asked if there was anything of real value in the vehicle, Davis stated that only his tools were inside but Davis eventually admitted that he had a pipe used for smoking marijuana in the center console. As the officer retrieved the cell phones and the marijuana pipe, they discovered a glass pipe with a crystalline residue, suspected to be methamphetamine, inside a cigarette pack. During a further search of the vehicle, they located a bottle cap containing a dried cotton ball with a crystalline substance on it, a second glass pipe with a similar substance, a digital scale, and a grinder.
Davis said he did have something on his person and the officer located a clear bag containing a clear, crystalline substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, in his right front pocket. Davis was placed under arrest and the vehicle was turned over to a wrecker. Warrants for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects; insurance requirements; operating motor vehicle without registration or valid license plate.
Male lies about identity, busted with drugs
On May 24, law enforcement was dispatched to 120 W. Green St. in reference to three male subjects trying to fight and threatening to discharge a firearm. The first subject, Daryl Waller, advised everything was okay and no one was fighting or threatening. Second subject, Marquze Skrine, advised no altercation was taking place and no one was fighting. The third subject, later identified as Da’Vaughn Addison, did not give his real name and date of birth to the officer and continuously lied about their identity. During the interaction with Addison, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana off his person and searched him. During the search, they located a small amount of marijuana, which was destroyed roadside, and a small metal pipe, commonly known to be used for drugs, a small razor, and a small metal rod. Addison admitted he used those items to smoke crack cocaine. Warrants for giving a false name or date of birth and possession of drug-related objects were secured on Addison.
Couple steals scrap air compressors
On May 26, Terry Lowery reported multiple thefts at Air Concepts of Middle Georgia at 1301 N. Columbia St. Lowery advised approximately two months ago it was brought to his attention by his workers that a white male and white female have been parking behind his business stealing scrap air compressors. Lowery advised he has talked to multiple law enforcement officers about the situation. Lowery advised, on approximately May 20, he put up Ring cameras around the exterior of his business and caught the subjects on camera stealing the scrap behind his business on May 25. In the past two months he believes the couple to have stolen 35-40 scrap air compressors estimated between $3,000$4,000 in scrap. Lowery could not identify the offenders due to him never seeing them prior to catching them on camera.
Employee steals $2,071 from Dollar General
On May 26, an officer was dispatched to Dollar General, located at 1550 N.
Columbia St., in reference to a reported employee theft. The district manager advised that Dollar General's loss prevention investigator conducted an internal investigation regarding employee Timothy Adams. The investigation revealed that Adams had been stealing money from the company between May 9-26 and stolen $2,071.87. Adams was placed under arrest and transported to the Baldwin County Jail without incident. Adams was trespassed from the location and a warrant for felony theft by taking was sworn against him.
Man steals clothing from Dollar General
On May 26, law enforcement was dispatched to Dollar General, 851 S.
Elbert St., in reference to shoplifting.
On scene, the officer noticed a male almost matching that description in the southern end of the parking lot but was wearing gray pants. Security footage showed the same male walk up and down an aisle placing multiple items into his front and rear waistbands. The items appeared to be a pair of socks, a white shirt, and another clothing item that the officer was unable to see in the footage. The man then leaves the location grabbing his items from behind the counter. The items he retrieved from behind the counter appear to be a black grocery bag and a pair of shoes. Another officer located Dralen Veal and found a Dollar General bag close to where he found him. All items were returned to Dollar General and found to total $28.62. The officer also found a white crystal-like substance, and a glass pipe on Veal’s person. Warrants were secured for possession of possible methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, and shoplifting.
Man flees police leaving behind passenger
On May 26, while observing traffic on North Jefferson Street, an officer noticed a white Lexus SUV with a non-functioning brake light as it turned onto East Walton Street. As they pulled out to initiate a traffic stop, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed, traveling east on East Walton Street. The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of East Walton Street and Barrows Ferry Road/Orchard Hill Road. The vehicle proceeded straight, onto Orchard Hill Road. The driver turned left onto Grimes Avenue, then turned left onto North Elbert Street.
The driver accelerated and ran the stop sign at the intersection with Pritchard Street. The driver failed to stop at the intersection of Pritchard Street and Grimes Avenue, and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went into the yard of 370 Grimes Ave. A man, later identified as Carlos Omari Miller, exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the trees toward East Camden Street.
The officer secured the vehicle, along with the passenger, Mikayla Waller, who was visibly irate. Waller said that she had begged the fleeing driver to stop the car. After verifying that Waller had no active warrants, she was released from the scene. A deputy alongside Milledgeville Police Department officers placed Miller under arrest and transported him back to my location. Miller stated he fled because his driver’s license was suspended due to a previous DUI. Miller stated his visible injuries were the result of an altercation with his girlfriend. Miller denied medical treatment. Miller was placed under arrest for felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and a brake light violation.
