On March 26, law enforcement made contact with Samantha Waller at 213 Pritchard St. in reference to damage to property. Waller advised she observed a gunshot in the driver’s side door of her daughter’s 2006 Ford Mustang.
She located another gunshot hole in the rear driver’s side tire of the vehicle.
The gunshot in the driver’s side door appeared to pass through the door and into the base of the driver’s seat. The officer checked the cushion but was unable to locate an exit hole in the seat.
The driver’s side rear tire also had a hole in the metal rim. The tire appeared to be deflated but the officer was unable to determine if there was an exit hole for the round. Waller stated on March 20 she contacted law enforcement in reference to hearing shots fired near her residence and law enforcement rode through the area and did not find anything out of the ordinary. Waller stated the vehicle has not been driven in approximately three weeks, which led to the gunshots not being noticed previously. Waller could not confirm the damage occurred the previous Thursday but feels it to be most likely. Due to the trajectory of the gunshots, it is suspected the offender was shooting toward 1113 N. Elbert St., across the road. Officers canvassed 1113 N. Elbert St. but were unable to locate any strikes on the residence. As of the press deadline, there are no suspects.
Drunk driver attempts to flee
On March 27, while on patrol in the area of Highway 212 and Avery Store Road, an officer observed a 2012 Hyundai Sonata without a functional left rear taillight traveling south on Highway 212. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the driver failed to stop and continued south on Highway 212 at a high rate of speed. The driver passed
another vehicle while exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour speed zone. The driver stopped the vehicle in the wrong lane of travel at the intersection of Highway 212 and Meriwether Road. The officer gave clear verbal commands to the driver, later identified as Shehalian Wilson, to exit the vehicle and to get on his knees. Once Wilson was secured, the officer observed him to have watery and bloodshot eyes, which is consistent with being under the influence of alcohol. Wilson stated he drank a Beat Box alcoholic drink.
Georgia State Patrol was requested to determine if he was impaired. Wilson was determined to be unsafe to drive.
Wilson was charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude, driving while license suspended, tag light illumination required, failure to drive within single lane, and driving vehicle while registration suspended. Wilson was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol by the Georgia State Patrol.
