On March 11, law enforcement responded to Walmart, at 2592 N.

Columbia St., in reference to a shoplifting. The suspect was last seen running toward IHOP. An officer located the male, later identified as John Thomas Polk Sr., who stated he was coming from IHOP. He stated he was at Walmart a couple of days ago but not that night. The officer asked Polk if law enforcement would see him on video inside of Walmart and Polk stated he had a shopping cart of items, but he did not exit the store with it. They then asked Polk if he ran away from anyone, and Polk admitted he made it to the entrance/exit door of Walmart with the merchandise before personnel confronted him. Asset Protection provided a picture of Polk past the last point of sale where customers grab shopping carts as they enter the store. The stolen merchandise totaled $1,079.72. A warrant was secured on Polk for felony theft by shoplifting.

Asset Protection also reported March 11 that Polk shoplifted from the store Jan. 28 and showed an officer footage of Polk attempting to exit the store with a shopping cart full of items. He was stopped by a Walmart employee before he could exit the building and left the shopping cart where he was stopped. Polk was seen running back into the store out of camera frame and the officer was later informed Polk left the store by exiting through the doors in the automotive section. The theft totaled $1,657.53. Another warrant was secured on Polk for felony theft by shoplifting.

MPD connects entering autos with burglary cases

On March 12, Milledgeville patrol officers and detectives worked several entering auto cases that occurred at the Boulevard Apartment Complex. As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for a residence on Fox Hill Road. While executing the search warrant, officers were also responding to multiple apartment burglaries at Revelry Flats Apartment Complex. According to the report, “it was quickly realized that multiple items being found during the search warrant were items being reported stolen from the burglaries.” Arrested during this investigation was Martez Harris, charged with entering auto and burglary; Micah Pittman charged with entering auto, burglary, and possession of a handgun by a person under 18. As of March 14, further charges were still pending.

Drunk driver hits patrol vehicle

On March 15, law enforcement was dispatched to 1209 Oconee St. in reference to working a vehicle crash involving a Milledgeville Police Department patrol vehicle. The driver of the at fault vehicle, Presanna Reaves, stated she had two shots of Don Julio (tequila).

Reaves agreed to take a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and was determined to be unsafe to drive. Reaves agreed to a roadside breathalyzer test and tested positive for alcohol (0.155).

Reaves consented to the state administered chemical test of her breath and Reaves registered a 0.157. Reaves was turned over to jail staff with a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
