Females shoplift at Dollar General

On Jan. 14, law enforcement was dispatched to Family Dollar, 641 S.

Wayne St., in reference to a shoplifting.

Two female subjects were observed entering the store. An employee stated she was working in one of the aisles and observed one of the females place pad products, nails, and body wash inside her bag. The items were approximately $50.

The other female subject was observed placing body wash and nail products in her bag. The items were worth approximately $10. The employee confronted the two female subjects to which they advised her they were going to pay for the items but they then exited the store without paying. The subjects rode away in a blue 2018 Toyota Camry. When the driver of the vehicle found out the situation, they returned to the store and reported they were unaware the female subjects had taken items from the store without paying. The employee confirmed the driver was not one of the subjects who allegedly shoplifted.

Drugs discovered during traffic stop

On Jan. 15, law enforcement was patrolling Vinson Highway and observed a blue Mercury sedan traveling north with an inoperative tag light. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the driveway of 326 Staley Ave. The driver was identified as Gerod Beckom and the passenger was identified as Cassie Jones. A check through GCIC revealed that Beckom’s Georgia driver’s license was suspended for his failure to pay child support. Jones was asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle and consented to a search of the vehicle. Deputy Henderson arrived to assist. Beckom was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

During a search of Beckom, officers located a glass pipe with suspected drug residue in his waist band and a digital scale concealed in his pocket. During the search of the vehicle Henderson located a small bag containing pills that were identified as Xanax (Alprazolam), a Schedule IV controlled substance, in the backpack that was between Jones’ feet. Beckom was issued citations for driving while license suspended and tag light required. Jones was charged with possession of Xanax (Alprazolam).

Woman resists arrests

On Jan. 18, an officer observed Sheena Warren get out of the driver’s seat of a vehicle at 117 Ogden Rd. The officer knew Warren had an active probation warrant and approached her. The officer informed Warren of the warrant for her arrest and she began walking back to the residence at a faster pace, as if she was attempting to flee. The officer grabbed Warren and attempted to place her hands behind her back, but she began snatching her arms away. Warren continued to resist arrest and the officer used “reasonable and necessary force” to handcuff her.

However, Warren dropped her weight and the officer had to drag her to the patrol car. At the jail, Warren continued to resist. Jail staff eventually assisted in walking Warren into a holding cell.

Warren was turned over to jail staff on her outstanding warrant and secured two additional warrants for misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.

Males caught driving stolen vehicle

On Jan. 19, law enforcement made contact with Jamie Jackson, via recorded line, in reference to his vehicle being stolen. Jackson stated his friend, “Quon” had been at his residence the previous day and during the night but did not have permission to use the vehicle. Jackson woke up on Jan. 19 and noticed that “Quon” and his vehicle were missing from the residence. The officer attempted to make contact with “Quon” via phone, but did not receive an answer. The same officer later responded to the intersection of North Elbert Street and Oconee Street, in reference to the stolen vehicle being located.

An officer and deputy were able to stop the vehicle and take the driver into custody without incident, prior to his arrival. The driver, identified as Isaiah Brown, stated he gained access to the vehicle from a male named “Quon.” Brown further stated he was the passenger in the vehicle and “Quon” was the driver. According to the report, Brown stated he was given permission to use the car by “Quon” to pick-up a charger but the accounts of his drive did not add up to what the officers saw when pulling him over.

Brown could not tell the officer who owned the car and Jackson, who picked up the vehicle, did not know Brown nor give him permission to use the vehicle.

Brown stated Quon’s first name was “Quondrick.” The reporting officer was able to locate a possible suspect and Brown confirmed Tonquondrick Cannon was the person who was originally driving the vehicle, and is who he got the vehicle from.

One state warrant was secured on Brown for felony theft by receiving stolen property. Brown was also issued one misdemeanor citation for driving while license suspended. Warrants for felony theft by taking were secured for Cannon.
