On Jan. 8, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 North Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting.
Ricky Hartry was inside and not able to pay for all of his items. Asset Protection observed video of Hartry only paying for a belt and fourteen limes, but nothing else. Hartry was placed under arrest and issued a citation for misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.
Pitbull puppy stolen from home
On Jan. 11, law enforcement was dispatched to 134 Swint Ave. in reference to a burglary. Law enforcement made contact with the complainant, Samantha Meeks, and her husband, Curtis Meeks. Samantha and Curtis stated they heard a crash downstairs and Curtis saw a medium-height black male that goes by the name “Dunk,” leaving the property. The basement door on the back side of the residence was damaged and reportedly “obviously recently forced in.” Property taken included a Dewalt chainsaw, miscellaneous tools, a laptop computer, and a brown and white pitbull puppy. A search of the area turned up no additional evidence or suspects.
Pair busted with methamphetamine
On Jan. 11, law enforcement was patrolling on Vinson Highway and observed a male and female riding bicycles in the middle of the road without proper lighting. An officer made contact with the two individuals, identified as William Garrison II and Jalyn Wilkerson, in the McDade Grocery parking lot, at 1765 Vinson Hwy. Garrison had a backpack strapped to the center bar of his bike and Wilkerson had a black backpack on her shoulders. Wilkerson and Garrison were informed they were required to have a white light and red light when riding a bicycle on the roadways to be seen by other drivers.
Wilkerson and Garrison reportedly appeared to be extremely nervous while speaking with the officer. Wilkerson avoided eye contact and her hands were shaking. Garrison stood directly behind Wilkerson. The officer reported, “Wilkerson seemed to not want me to speak with Garrison directly. I could see Wilkerson clenching her teeth and could see her carotid artery throbbing in her neck.” When asked where they were heading, they pointed up the road and stated that they were going to a friend’s house.
According to the report, the area they pointed to was a high drug area. With “both individuals exhibiting nervous behaviors, based on their training and experience with narcotics and narcotics use, I requested Lt.t Rogers to come to the location to assist me.”
Upon checking both Wilkerson and Garrison through GCIC, it was discovered both were on felony probation for drug violations. When asked if either of them had anything on their person that they shouldn’t have, both stated that they did not. When asked if they would consent to a search, Wilkerson and Garrison avoided the question but consented when asked a second time.
Wilkerson tried to avoid it being seen but had a glass pipe in her left pocket that she stated was not hers when it was discovered. Inside the glass pipe, there was a significant amount of a residue of a crystal-like substance, suspected to be methamphetamine. During a continued search of Wlikerson, the officer located a shard of crystal-like substance, suspected to be methamphetamine.
When asked what bag was his, Garrison stated both bags belonged to Wilkerson. He stated was carrying the backpack for Wilkerson. During a search of the backpack that was with Garrison, a glass pipe with a crystal like substance, suspected to be methamphetamine was located in a gray pouch, along with a silicon black and yellow container.
Inside the container were several crystal shards of suspected methamphetamine.
Garrison and Wilkerson were charged with VGCSA possession of methamphetamine and light requirements on a bicycle.
