Man steals deodorant at CVS
On Oct. 1, law enforcement was dispatched to CVS, 423 S. Wayne St., in reference to a shoplifting. An unknown male came into the location, walked into the cosmetics area, and then left.
An employee completed an immediate inventory and noticed three two-pack Arrid deodorants were missing. The male has reportedly shoplifted before.
The Arrid deodorants are approximately $12.99 per two pack. Officers checked the area, and the male was not located.
Camera footage was reviewed and, due to the quality of the camera footage, no clear images of the suspect were gathered.
Unknown man shoplifts Pringles from Food Depot
On Oct. 4, law enforcement was dispatched to the Food Depot, at 1850 N. Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting. Personnel said a male made his purchase, they noticed the male had something rolled up in his hoodie.
When they asked what he had, the male pulled up his shirt where they saw a can of Pringles and candy in his waistband.
Reportedly, the male then casually walked out of the store toward the old Georgia Power Office. Law enforcement searched the area but were unable to locate a man matching the description.

Woman caught skipscanning at Walmart
On Oct. 4, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N. Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting.
An employee observed Mercy Paola Mendez Cosijua at self-checkout scan items but then take higher-priced items or items that she saw fit and failed to scan items across the scanner. Mercy paid for scanned items and continued into the grocery vestibule beyond the last point of sale before she was approached by Asset Protection, where she was asked to provide a copy of her receipt for the non-scanned items. The total dollar amount of the unpaid items was valued at $141.79, and Mercy was issued a citation for theft by shoplifting. Mercy was transported to the LEC without incident.
Man arrested for driving under influence
On Oct. 5, law enforcement was dispatched to the area of Highway 22 and Industrial Park Drive for an impaired driver. The driver, Tyler Awtry, stated that he left downtown and was heading home to Jackson.
Awtry admitted to speeding and not having his headlights on. When asked, Awtry admitted to having a few alcoholic drinks while out with friends.
While the officer was speaking with Awtry, he could smell the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person.
Awtry eyes were bloodshot and watery.
Awtry consented to a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and was determined to be impaired. Awtry provided a breath sample on a portable breath test and showed a positive reading for alcohol above the legal limit. Awtry received citations for driving under the influence, seat belt violation, and driving without headlights.
