Shots fired at home on Magnolia Avenue

On Aug. 20, law enforcement responded to the area of Magnolia Avenue in reference to a shooting. The complainant met officers in the roadway and advised her house had been shot at.

No one was reported injured.

The complainant stated she was in her bedroom when all of a sudden, several gunshots rang out, striking her house.

She hid in a closet until her son came to check on her. In addition to the damage from a previous shooting, she discovered several spots where the front of her house had been shot and the rounds traveled through to the rear of the house. She stated that she only heard the gunshots but never saw anyone or any vehicle outside the residence at the time of the shooting. The son stated he was sitting on the couch when the gunfire occurred but was not aware of who would be shooting at him or his mother.

Several rounds came through the front wall, through the television, and into the rear wall of the house. Twenty-one brass shell casings were located in the roadway in front of the house continuing as far as 270 Magnolia Avenue. Several fresh bullet holes were in the front of the residence along with damage to the front door and a nearby window. Several rounds also passed through the wall, into the hallway, and into an adjacent bathroom wall.

A nearby neighbor advised they were in their residence when the shooting occurred and further stated they heard a commotion, which sounded as if a singular person was running from the area of Magnolia Avenue and got into a car, which was parked at the intersection with Oak Avenue. The case was turned over to detectives for further investigation.

Unknown person ‘keys’ car

On Aug. 22, law enforcement responded to Waterford Place Apartments after a resident reported a rock being thrown at the window of her apartment. The victim received a text from an unknown number. She didn’t have any idea who was texting her and the number was from a “Text Now” number and didn’t belong to anyone. After walking outside to look at the damage of the window, she noticed her vehicle had been damaged by presumptively the same party. Damage included two flat tires, and a “keying” of the vehicle. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.

Burglary reported on Irwin Street

On Aug. 23, law enforcement was dispatched to 251 S. Irwin St. in reference to a burglary. The complainant advised that the front door was wide open and that the homeowner was out of town, so he came to check on the residence for her.

He Facetimed her and the homeowner confirmed that $200 was stolen from a safe turned over in the bedroom closet and a HP laptop was missing off a stand in the bedroom. Several different drawers and cabinets throughout the home were left open. The screen to a window in the bedroom was also cut open. The blinds to the window were damaged and the curtain was no longer hanging. The homeowner stated that she believed the window was left unlocked. No fingerprints or footprints were visible. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.

Wife attempts to mislead officers

On Aug. 24, law enforcement was dispatched to 2080 Irwinton Rd. to serve a warrant on Sherman Woods. His wife, Kendra Woods, stated she had not seen Sherman at the residence since around 10 a.m. Kendra gave consent to the deputy to search the residence for Sherman but they were unable to locate him.

While leaving the residence, the deputy made contact with a male who advised him that a male matching Sherman’s appearance ran through the tree line toward Moore Street. The area was searched, but no contact was made with Sherman.

A lieutenant came to the location to assist with a drone while other law enforcement were checking the area on foot. The deputy observed Kendra and a black male wearing a baseball hat walking around a vehicle parked at the residence. Kendra walked away and the vehicle began moving. The drone was positioned to be able to view Sherman exit the vehicle. Sherman refused to identify himself and continued to attempt to go inside the residence. Sherman was pulled away from the door and placed on the wall. Kendra emerged from the residence and identified Sherman as “Darryl” in an attempt to mislead deputies. A warrant for obstruction of officers was issued against Kendra Woods.
