Man caught shoplifting beer

On Aug. 13, law enforcement was dispatched to the Jet Food Store, at 301 E. Hancock St., in reference to a shoplifting. The complainant witnessed Zeraun Gibson enter the location and take a beer totaling approximately $2. He concealed it in his gray shorts. Camera footage of the incident confirmed their story. The officer was able to pull a picture of Gibson up in their system and the complainant confirmed that Gibson was the male who shoplifted. Warrants for shoplifting were taken out on Gibson.

Man steals clothes from CVS

On Aug. 16, law enforcement responded to CVS Pharmacy, at 960 N.

Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting.

An employee stated a male fled the store with clothing items that were unpaid for.

Law enforcement located the male identified as Johnny Dewberry walking near the intersection of West Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Clarke Street, who fit the description given by dispatch. Dewberry fled from law enforcement on foot but a detective was able to apprehend him and return the clothes. The clothing totaled $55.93. Dewberry was cited for shoplifting and transported to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Man flees police during traffic stop

On Aug. 16, while on patrol, an officer observed a white van traveling east on Allen Memorial Drive, without any operable rear exterior lights. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of Elder Drive.

The driver, later identified as Quinterrious Scott, got out of the driver’s side of the vehicle and began to run down Elder Drive. The driver ran behind the trailers at 103 Elder Dr. A deputy retrieved Scott and he told law enforcement he ran because he had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle was turned over to Donald’s Paint and Body. Scott received warrants for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and citations for driving while license is suspended and light requirements.

Man caught shoplifting twice

On Aug. 16, law enforcement responded to the Dollar General, at 2110 N. Jefferson St., in reference to shoplifting. A man, later identified as Dontavious Anderson, was seen on video footage in the clothing aisle picking up packs of white t-shirts and placing them in the cart. In the cart, when he walked in, were empty bookbags but the footage shows the male walking out of the store with full bookbags and two Gain laundry detergents in hand. Due to not having Anderson on video putting items in the bookbags, the employee was unable to advise if the shirts were in the bags, or if Anderson had stolen other items. A witness returned to the store and informed police that she had been in the vehicle with Anderson when she realized that Anderson had stolen items from the store. She exited the vehicle and returned to the Dollar General. Law enforcement escorted her home.

On Aug. 17, law enforcement was dispatched to CVS Pharmacy, at 423 S. Wayne St., in reference to a theft in progress. Upon arriving, the officer observed a male fitting the description walking north by the wooden fence line toward West Franklin Street. The officer pulled through the parking lot and made contact with the male, later identified as Anderson, on the sidewalk in front of 120 W. Franklin St. Anderson denied having any identification and stated he could retrieve it but as he walked onto the lawn of the address, he would not answer the officers questions and began running as he reached the back side of 406 S.

Wilkinson St. As he ran, he dropped the black backpack he was carrying. The officer gave chase and called in backup.

Anderson was eventually apprehended as he reached 507 S. Wayne St. During a search of his person, officers located a package in front of his left pocket. The item was KANK-A Mouth pain liquid.

An employee reported that Anderson had stolen from the store several times during the week. Warrants for theft by shoplifting and obstruction of an officer were taken out against Anderson, in addition to another warrant for theft by shoplifting from the prior day’s incident.
