The Baldwin County School District appointed Michelle O’Gorman Maurer as the new Special Education director following the Board of Education’s decision at its July 2 called meeting.
O’Gorman Maurer brings over 15 years of experience in education and leadership to her new role. Her career includes positions as a general education elementary and middle school math teacher, special education teacher, academic specialist, athletic director, and district instructional coach.
She has been a special education coordinator in the Bibb County School District for seven years. In this role, she made significant contributions by supporting students with disabilities, leading a diverse team of support staff, and developing and streamlining processes to enhance effectiveness and improve student outcomes.
O’Gorman Maurer holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood special education from Macon State College, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Georgia Southwestern State University, and an educational specialist degree in teacher leadership from Valdosta State University.
“Mrs. O’Gorman Maurer is not only a highly skilled professional but also a dedicated individual committed to the long-term success of all students,” said Superintendent Dr. Noris Price. “We are confident that her expertise and passion for education will greatly benefit our students and community.”
O’Gorman Maurer grew up in a military family. She was born in England and has lived in multiple states. She is married to Blake Maurer, and they have a three-year-old son, Matthew. In her spare time, O’Gorman Maurer enjoys running 5Ks, traveling, and spending time with her family. - Contributed
