Passenger obstructs officers during traffic stop

On May 24, the Milledgeville Police Department worked a drive-by shooting in Wray Homes and the Sheriff's Office later received a BOLO for the vehicle involved. While patrolling the area of Irwinton Road, an officer was able to locate the vehicle at 2015 Irwinton Road. Due to the nature of the crime committed, the officer waited to stop the vehicle until other deputies were in the area. They followed the vehicle to the intersection of Fourth Street and South Main Street to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Jaylon Lester, complied with law enforcement. The passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Javian Lester, reportedly became very upset and belligerent. Javian exited the vehicle without being instructed to do so and began yelling and being very uncooperative. Officers attempted to calm down and detain Javian but were unsuccessful. They used the necessary amount of force to take Javian to the ground while he continued to resist arrest, but they were eventually able to take him into custody. The rear passenger was removed from the vehicle without incident. Once all occupants were out of the vehicle, Javian was informed he was under arrest but refused to get inside the vehicle. Javian was forced into the patrol vehicle using the necessary amount of force. Two warrants for obstruction of officers were secured for Javian Lester.

Man steals ribeyes from Walmart

On May 30, law enforcement was dispatched to McDonalds, at 2490 N.

Columbia St., in reference to a theft at Walmart, at 2592 N. Columbia St.

Ronald Mays had shoplifted approximately $178.72 worth of ribeye steaks from Walmart. Mays was placed into the back of their patrol car and transported back to Walmart with the items he had taken. Mays was trespassed from the location and given a citation for shoplifting.

Woman steals clothes from Citi Trends

On May 31, law enforcement was dispatched to Citi Trends, at 1490 N.

Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting. An employee stated while she and a coworker were in the back of the store cleaning up clothes on the floor, a customer witnessed a female grabbing clothes and walking out of the store. Camera footage showed the unidentified female walking up to the counter and when seeing there were no employees around, she turned to look at the shelves behind her. She walked out of the store with clothes still on the hangers in her arms. It appeared to be a few pieces of clothing, but employees were unable to confirm the amount and value.

Unknown persons break into rental

On May 31, law enforcement met with the complainant and victim, Pheral Kinchen at his rental property on Thompson Circle, in reference to a burglary. Kinchen informed an officer that he comes to the property every Friday to complete maintenance and yard work. He reported that between May 24-31, unknown person(s) broke into the residence through the back door and stole a Stihl weed eater and a Husqvarna chainsaw along with a broken 80” television. The back door had a broken glass window and was pried open. After checking the residence for any additional damage and missing items, Kinchen led the officer to an outside storage area behind the garage.

The padlock was pried from the door.

Inside the room numerous storage totes were rummaged through but nothing was reported missing.
