Burglary at Evans Avenue Unit
On April 30, law enforcement responded to 313 Evans Ave. in reference to a burglary. The manager was advised by a group of residents in the area that the back-window screen was pulled off a vacant unit and the blinds looked messed up on the inside. He stated he witnessed damages inside done to the appliances and various items inside of the apartment. He advised all damages done to the apartment and appliances came out to approximately $3,500 in damages. Upon investigation, it was determined the subject entered the residence through an unsecure window in the rear of the residence.
Shoplifters reported at Bath and Body Works
On April 30, law enforcement was dispatched to Bath and Body Works, at 1968 N. Columbia St., in reference to theft by shoplifting. Three females walked into the establishment and loaded baskets full of merchandise and proceeded to walk out of the store without paying for anything. The estimated amount of merchandise taken was $1,147.85.
Man caught with methamphetamine
On May 2, law enforcement responded to the area of Vinson Highway and Coombs Avenue in reference to a male calling 911 stating he was shot. The number belonged to Cornelius Brown, who was located at the intersection of Coombs Avenue and South Elbert Street. Brown informed law enforcement that he believed a gang was following him but would not say whether he had been shot. He further stated he wanted to go to the hospital because he had been drugged but would not specify what he was drugged with. Emergency medical services were contacted to check on Brown. While waiting on the ambulance, Brown admitted to taking a white liquid that he had smoked. Prior to placing Brown in the ambulance, a search of his person was conducted and law enforcement located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, a multitool knife, and ammunition. Brown was arrested later that day for possession of methamphetamine.
Drunk man causes scene at Jet 69
On May 4, law enforcement was dispatched to Jet 69, on North Columbia Street, in reference to a male at the location who was intoxicated. Officers made contact with Willie Hodnett. Hodnett stated he had been driving the Hummer parked by the gas pump. A Jet Food store employee stated she saw Hodnett drive up in the Hummer. The officer smelled the odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from Hodnett's person. Hodnett informed officers that he did not have a valid driver's license. The officers advised Hodnett multiple times to call a ride but he ignored the requests and started causing a scene. Hodnett was placed under arrest for public drunkenness and driving while license suspended.
