Allied Arts announces Oconee Artist Exhibit

>> ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Allied Arts is currently accepting submissions from Central Georgia artists for its annual Oconee Artists Exhibit and Contest.

This contest has been occurring for over a decade and gives artists a chance to submit up to three pieces in four different categories: Drawing (physical or digital), Mixed Media, Painting, and Sculpture/ Pottery. The piece can be no larger than 24 inches by 30 inches and, if it is a hanging piece, having a wire to hang it is preferred.

“The Oconee Artists Exhibit is a chance for Georgia artists to show their artwork off and connect to the public,” said Kristin Allen, program coordinator for Allied Arts. “The exhibit is open to beginner or experienced artists, but any submissions must be an original piece produced within the last three years.”

All artwork will be exhibited for the public and judged to decide on first, second and third place along with honorable mentions. First place will receive $350, second place $200, and third place $100. Three honorable mentions will receive a ribbon. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, Curator of the Macon Arts Alliance Sierra Bush has been announced as one of the judges.

“Judges use their own expertise and criteria to determine places,” said Allen. “Each year submissions are unique as previous entries may not be re-entered.”

To enter the contest, artists must pay a non-refundable entry fee of $40. Artwork must be delivered to the Marlor House Art Center in Milledgeville by May 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To register visit the Allied Arts’ website at milledgevillealliedarts. com “This is an opportunity to showcase your talent and support your local art community,” said Allen.

Artwork for the exhibit will be on display. The reception is May 3 from 5-7 p.m. and the exhibit will run through May 30. Awards and recognitions will be announced at the reception. The Marlor House Art Center will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to view the exhibit.
