Man steals Tide Pods from Walgreens
On March 6, law enforcement was dispatched to Walgreens, on 2350 N. Columbia St., about shoplifting. The assistant manager stated she recognized the male from a previous shoplifting. He took approximately eight to nine bags of Tide Pods, put them into his pants, and walked out of the store. The male was last seen crossing North Columbia Street on March 6 and going into the wood line behind Wendy’s.
Break-ins reported at Bellamy Apartments
On March 6, two reported break-ins occurred at Bellamy Apartments on 145 S. Irwin St. The first report stated the resident left his apartment that morning to go to class. When he returned to the apartment, he noticed the front door had been kicked in and damaged. Nothing was stolen and an apartment maintenance worker advised the door would cost $250,300 to repair.
In the second report, another resident discovered the door to their bedroom had been kicked in and the frame of the door was damaged. They reported missing a Sony PlayStation 5 (valued at approximately $450) and a Sony PlayStation 5 controller (valued at approximately $70) had been stolen. The resident reported that the front door to the common area was undamaged and unlocked when he returned home. The approximate value to repair the door was $200-300.
On March 7, another resident reported that the front door of his apartment seemed to be damaged. He reported leaving the residence on March 2 and returned on March 3. He reported missing his PlayStation 5 (valued at approximately $533.93). The resident reportedly left his residence and bedroom doors unlocked when he left due to misplacing his keys.
Man arrested for DUI
Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on March 8 on a black truck failing to maintain its lane of travel on North Columbia Street.
The truck stopped in front of the Fairfield Hotel and the driver, Joshua Jernigan, was reported to have glassy, red eyes and the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person.
Jernigan stated he had six to seven vodka and sprites. He agreed to a standardized field sobriety test and failed the horizontal gaze test.
He did not do the walk-and-turn test reportedly due to medical problems with his feet. He, however, failed the one-leg stand and tested positive for alcohol on the breathalyzer. Jernigan was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and failing to drive within a single lane.
Woman arrested for pulling fire alarm
On March 10, law enforcement responded to 151 N. Richmond St. to assist the Milledgeville Fire Department with a female subject who had pulled the fire alarm and was punching walls. The female was identified as D’Asia Jones. Jones stated she was upset with the staff of the location and that she kicked two holes in the wall and pulled the fire alarm.
Four staff members stated Jones got upset after tripping over a trashcan and started yelling and threatening staff before kicking the wall and pulling the fire alarm.
Another staff member stated that after Jones exited the business, she began to grab rocks from the garden area when she struck one of the employees’ vehicles. Jones was placed under arrest for criminal trespass and false fire alarm.
Entering autos reported on Tomlinson Road
On March 10, law enforcement was dispatched to two residences on Tomlinson Road about entering auto reports. The first victim reported that when he opened his vehicle on the morning of March 10, he found his gun holster sitting in the driver’s seat but thought nothing of it because his wallet and laptop were still in the passenger seat.
However, he later realized that his Coyote tan Canik 9mm semi-auto pistol (valued at approximately $600) had been stolen. The second victim reported their vehicle being rummaged through though nothing appeared to be missing.
