Entering auto on North Clark Street
On Jan. 29, law enforcement was dispatched to an apartment on North Clark Street regarding an entering auto that already occurred. The victim stated that her Apple Airpods valued at $200 and a knife valued at $100 were stolen from her vehicle. She stated that she came to her vehicle and noticed papers strewn about before calling law enforcement but she had cleaned up the scene before their arrival. The vehicle was reportedly not locked and there were no signs of forced entry.
$3,248 worth of appliances stolen from residence
On Jan. 29, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence on Riverbend Annex about a burglary. The tenants reportedly left the address without advising they were leaving.
The landlord checked the location and observed a Frigidaire refrigerator totaling $850, a Frigidaire Oven Range totaling $638, a GE Washer totaling $880, and a GE Dryer totaling $880 were missing from the residence. At the back of the residence, he observed a glass window was broken inwards that would cost approximately $500 to fix.
Vehicle stolen from Arcadia on the River
On Jan. 30, law enforcement was dispatched to Arcadia on the River at 120 Pumping Station Rd regarding a stolen vehicle. The victim stated she parked her vehicle in front of her apartment the prior night on Jan. 29 and left her purse and keys unsecured in the vehicle. When she went to her car later, she found the parking spot empty. The FLOCK camera system had several hits between 4:03 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. but showed no hits beyond that time. At 3:46 p.m. on Jan. 30, the Macon-Bibb Sheriff’s Office notified law enforcement that the vehicle had been located in an apartment complex in their jurisdiction. The vehicle was towed, due to missing keys, by Kitchens Towing and the victim was notified where to pick it up.
Man arrested for public indecency
On Feb. 1, an officer was patrolling the 2000 block of North Jefferson Street when dispatch advised there was a male reportedly showing his privates to some residents on Grandview Drive.
The officer met with the male, later identified as Brianley Hobbs when he was yelling something at three subjects nearby. Hobbs told the officer that he heard a gunshot near the residence and knocked on their door to ask them about it. When asked if he showed the residents his private area, Hobbs denied it and spoke in a derogatory manner.
He continued to use this language towards the officer and was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.
While attempting to arrest him, Hobbs attempted to pull away and eventually, the struggle led both men to fall to the ground, where Hobbs fell on top of the officer. He refused to get off, even when another officer arrived and ordered him to. Hobbs was subsequently tased after being given a warning and multiple commands to get off.
Before being put in the patrol vehicle, a search of his person led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, a clear glass rose bowl pipe, a clear bag containing small color balloons, and several types of pills in a clear bag.
Hobbs was charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule II-controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor public indecency, four charges of misdemeanor terroristic threats and acts, and two charges of misdemeanor willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
Woman shoplifts shoes from Sports Addition
On Feb. 2, law enforcement was dispatched to Sports Addition, at 2400 N. Columbia St., about a theft.
A female subject came into the store and stole two pairs of shoes. The shoes were a pair of size 8 in women’s Nike high top Dunks valued at $130 and the second pair were a size 7C Jordan Retro 6’s valued at $85. Video footage was reviewed and showed two females walking in together. The two subjects separated and met back up at the shoes.
They began talking and speaking with the employee. After the second female asks the employee to go to the back, the first female walks out of the store and walks towards TJ Max.
The second female then gets on the phone and appears to be talking to someone. After a short while, the second female exited the store and walked towards the rear of the mall. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there was nothing further.
Drunk driver arrested for hitting unattended vehicle
On Feb. 4, law enforcement was dispatched to 221 North Columbia Street about an accident. The witness, who observed the accident happen, stated that the driver exited his vehicle and told the witness that he was drunk before beginning to walk toward Montgomery Street.
Law enforcement made contact with a male matching the description from the witness on North Jackson Street. When law enforcement spoke to the driver, later identified as Johnathan Jones, he would not answer about what happened or why he walked away from the vehicle.
An officer conducted the Standardized Field Sobriety test and due to Jones's physical manifestations and the clues observed during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Jones was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
Jones was charged with driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane, hit and run, and duties upon striking an unattended vehicle.
