Man shoplifts from Dollar General
On May 1, law enforcement responded to Dollar General, on Roberson Mill Road, in reference to a shoplifting.
Reportedly, an unknown man wearing a black hoodie and mask was pushing a buggy with different items in it. The male went to an aisle that did not have a good camera view and walked out of the store with what appeared to be items stashed in his pants. The officer patrolled the location and had negative results. The security camera showed the male enter the location and leave the store with items in his leg pants. The complainant did not give an approximate amount of what was taken. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
Unknown woman leaves Waklmart with unpaid items
On May 2, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a theft that already occurred. Loss Prevention personnel reported that an unknown female was observed shoplifting on camera on May 1. The subject completed the transaction and proceeded to bag numerous items from the sales floor. Upon reviewing the sales receipt, multiple items were not purchased and were placed into shopping bags. Loss prevention provided the officer with the account information of the buyer but the internal search was met with negative results. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
Burglar fires two warning shots during attempt to break-in
On May 4, law enforcement responded to a burglary in progress on Clay Pottery Road. The victim told police an unknown male attempted to enter his home from his back sliding door.
The burglar broke the screen door but could not gain entry inside due to a wedge holding the door shut. The male reportedly went out the second backdoor and fired a warning shot from a 9mm handgun. After this shot, the man reportedly ran out of sight and the victim contacted police. While on the phone, the victim attempted to look for the man through his front door and left it unlocked when reentering their home. The burglar returned and made entry through the front door but ran out when confronted by the victim and fired a second warning shot on the front porch. The victim was not injured.
Officers located two shell casings from the warning shots and noted damage to the screen door but were unable to locate the male. However, later that day, the victim reported locating a pill bottle on his property that belonged to Jacques Caine. On May 8, a warrant for criminal trespass was taken out for Caine.
Wanted male caught arrested for intent to sale marijuana
On May 4, law enforcement were notified of a wanted person, Deiontavious Scott, on Irwinton Road by the Flock Camera System. Scott was wanted for felony criminal damage to property (second degree). An officer located the vehicle on Allen Memorial Drive and was able to verify Scott as the driver. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle rapidly accelerated onto North Main Street. According to the report, Scott was driving at such a high speed that the officer lost sight of him until he turned onto Lockwood Street.
A traffic stop was initiated and the officer approached Scott to ask for identification. Scott reportedly had a firearm in his lap and reached towards the firearm despite instruction not to.
The officer drew their service weapon and commanded for Scott to let go of the firearm which he complied to.
Scott was placed under arrest and escorted to the rear seat of the patrol car. The officer noted that the odor of marijuana coming from Scott’s vehicle and when making an inventory of the vehicle, an aluminum container with a bag of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, two smaller bags of marijuana, and an extended magazine loaded with 9mm rounds were located in the vehicle.
Central Georgia Towing took custody of the vehicle and Scott was transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. Scott was served his outstanding warrant for felony criminal damage to property (second degree). Warrants for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony were secured for Scott.
Man attempts to steal $395 worth of merchandise from Walmart
On May 5, law enforcement responded to Walmart in reference to an attempted theft. An unknown male, whom the store has had previous issues with, came into the location and began placing various items into his bookbag. Along with placing items in his personal bag, the male was seen placing items into bags obtained at the checkout counters and placing the bags into a shopping cart. Upon seeing these actions, an employee confronted the male at the last point of sale where he left the shopping cart and advised he did not steal anything. The male left the location after the confrontation. A total of $395.25 worth of merchandise was recovered from the cart.
Father kidnaps son and assaults mother
On May 7, law enforcement was dispatched in reference to the possible kidnapping of a child. Reportedly the child’s father, Hakeem Evans, came to the residence to drop off the child and requested to put them to bed. Once the child was in bed, the mother reportedly asked Evans to leave and he became aggressive. Evans advised he would take the child with him and leave, but the mother told him that he could not take their child. The child reportedly told Evans that he did not want to go with him and Evans said he was going.
According to the mother, Evans did not like her response to him taking the child and pushed her against the wall. He reportedly held her by the shirt, ripped her shirt and hit her in the face. The fight escalated and Evans reportedly threw the mother onto the couch and began to choke her and hold his foot on her chest. The child, at this point, had exited their room and was reported to have seen the fight ongoing. The mother advised their son began yelling for his father to stop and once the fighting stopped, ran outside to get away from Evans. Evans reportedly released the mother and chased after the child, picked him up, and began carrying him to the car.
The mother followed Evans outside and attempted to pull the child away from him but Evans reportedly pushed her away and she fell down the stairs.
The mother was observed with a busted lip, swollen left side of her face, small red scratches on the left and right side of her neck, and a bruise on her left shin from her falling down the stairs.
Dispatch was able to ping Evan’s phone near Church Street in Eatonton and Evans was located in a trailer park off of 44 Custer Ave, near Church Street. His son was located asleep in the front seat of Evan’s car. Evans was arrested and his son was safely escorted and returned to his mother.
Warrants were secured for Hakeem Evans for kidnapping (family violence), aggravated assault by strangulation, and cruelty to children in the third degree.
Man steals Snicker Brownies from Jet Food Store
On May 8, law enforcement was dispatched to the Jet Food Store in reference to a theft that already occurred. On May 5, an unknown male reportedly stole a case of Snicker Brownies, valued at $66.96. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, no suspects have been identified.
