Bailey thought she’d gotten her happyever- after-ending. Married to the man she loves, she has started a family, and her business is flourishing. But when Bailey’s ex-husband, a famous TV chef, is found murdered – with her DNA all over his apartment and body – she is suddenly facing murder charges.
Already burdened by the demands of marriage, motherhood and career, Bailey must now do everything she can to prove her innocence. But it’s the ones she thought would be on her side – her mysterious lawyer and her current husband – who might be doubting her innocence most.
That’s the backstory of Leslie Hooton’s newest book, After Everyone Else. Hooton will be Georgia Writers Museum’s Meet the Author presenter on Tuesday, May 2, with doors open at 11:30 a.m. for a noontime start. The event also will include a delicious brunch featuring main character Bailey’s favorite drink, the Sidecar, a cocktail traditionally made with cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice.
Hooton’s debut novel, Before Anyone Else, earned a nomination for a Zibby award from New York book podcaster Zibby Owens, and her second novel, The Secret of Rainy Days, quickly became a book club favorite. After Everyone Else is
a sequel to her debut novel. Additionally, she’s had essays published in Newsweek and Women Writers, Women’s Books. Hooton lives in Charlotte, N.C., and already is working on her next novel.
According to USA Today bestselling author Lisa Barr, “Acclaimed author Leslie Hooton’s new novel, After Everyone Else, packs a powerful punch. Alternating between the past and present, what begins as a mystery quickly deep dives into the intricacy of relationships. Hooton doesn’t miss a beat as she deftly explores how far we go to protect those we love—a must-read.”
Originally from a small town in Alabama, Hooton holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Auburn University and a Juris Doctor (JD) from Samford University. At the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, she studied with renowned authors Jill McCorkle, Alice McDermott and Richard Bausch.
