GCSU softball player named PBC Freshman of the Week

>> GEORGIA COLLEGE

The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced Monday that Georgia College & State University softball player Sydney Lancaster (20-12, 7-8 PBC) is its Freshman of the Week.

Lancaster, from Woodstock, had an outstanding weekend, going 5-for-9 at the plate for a .556 batting average against Lander University. She highlighted her outing with an impressive 3-for-3 performance, including a stolen base in the second game of last Saturday’s doubleheader.

She also added a solid outing at shortstop with a perfect fielding percentage on 10 chances. Lancaster is the second player this season named in the PBC weekly awards for softball, as Jessica Owens was named conference player of the week just two weeks earlier. The last time a Bobcat was named as Freshman of the Week was Divina Checo on May 2, 2022. This makes Lancaster the 19th Bobcat named to this honor.
